    [OT] TV troubleshooting

Well, whatever you do, don't think you can service anything inside the set unless you know something about electronics. There is a powerful capacitor inside all TVs that stay charged for many hours even with the power cord unplugged. If you don't properly discharge it you're in for one hell of...

    Paying for game sessions?!?

Most people have agreed that they wouldn't pay "just to play" in a game, but things that I WOULD pay for are the consumable goods that get utilized for the whole group's benefit. Things like washable markers, paper towels, paper plates, napkins (cause you snack at somebody's house probably)...

    Unseen Servant possible uses

add in a "ghost sound" spell and maybe a "ventriloquism," and you've got a haunted house for your low level PCs :P

So druids can use ANY weapon they want?

The example in the PHB shows ironwood plate armor as "okay" for druids. So non-metallic armor of all types is okay? In the class description the approved armor types are only padded, leather, or hide. Cast ironwood on some woodshaped plate armor and now it qualifies as druid approved armor...

So druids can use ANY weapon they want?

So I'm looking at the druid weapons proficiencies list and note that they are rather restricted when it comes to armor and weapon selection. The list is quite specific in the classes chapter...with one caveat, the ironwood spell. So I look up the ironwood spell and it says very clearly that...

Stat-blocks: In text, or in appendix?

What's better is an appendix with stat blocks made out to fit on 3x5 cards! :)

Stat-blocks: In text, or in appendix?

I prefer to photocopy the appendix. Sometimes I'll put their combat stats on 3x5 cards (along with cards for my groups PCs) and stack them in their initiative order. That way I just flip through them during fights, and can save the cards for later to track XP. I would certainly second putting...

    Drow Spell-Like Abilities

An ordinary drow is a CR1 creature because it has natural spell-like abilities. Treat them as being cast by a 1st-level sorcerer. Beyond that, you can add whatever class and levels you want, but the total CR would be total class levels +1. At least that's the way I understand it.

    X Crawl games

I think it would work as a good one-shot, but for a campaign it would get old quickly. It throws out a lot of the plot and just boils it down to, "go from point A to point B" or, "defeat X." You hardly need to buy another book if that's what you want. This book actually offers much less, than...

Gaming group ponderance - draw attention to an expert's inexpertise?

My personal choice is to make my players look up any questionable rules in the PHB whenever possible. There are still some specific character abilities that I've never played with myself, so even as a DM I am far from having all the answers. If a player wants to argue it out though I will...

    Battle Mats

Chessex is finally catching on, and now DOES MAKE DOUBLE-SIDED MATS. I know because I left my CC mats at home one time and dropped into another gamestore to pick one up--they still call them megamats, so be careful if you're ordering online without a specific description. I'm pretty sure they...

    NPCs as Party Members

It's hard to balance a party of barbarians, rogues, and rangers. I certainly didn't force anyone to do anything. But magic is a part of the world, and I don't feel like I should have to pull punches "just for them." If they go down as just another unsuccessful adventurer group, my hope is...

    Attacking a low-level party

The meteorites are a result of a comet that visits regularly. Here's a passage I read to the dwarves in the party, who had met privately with the NPC dwarven cleric who gave the speech. ----THE DRAFT---- Once every 350 years Moradin bestows a gift. A comet visits the skies for 7 days, some...

    Attacking a low-level party

Here's an update: The party was upstairs in the main feasthall enjoying the festivities when a forge apprentice came running up the steps yelling for help. Obviously, the local guards were the first to respond, although they are mostly for watching the walls outside, not inside. The party...

    Non-good assassin

If you got newbs in the group, I would suggest you stick with the PHB, and prohibit the assassin class. I see them as much more like loners and not likely to travel around with an adventuring group. The conflicts that come up when having both good and evil PCs in a group aren't worth the...

    NPCs as Party Members

Currently, I have a group of players whose party does not include a cleric or arcane caster of any kind (okay, one is a ranger, but he isn't high enough to cast anything). Personally, I'm against having an NPC hang out with the party beyond a single objective/adventure, but if I leave them...

    Rpg's and miniatures

i use mostly glass counters for bad guys, but its cool for players to have their own player character figs and paint them up. If you're lucky, one of your players will get addicted to the figs and start painting all sorts of goodies :)
