Drow Spell-Like Abilities

The SRD states that the drow's spell-like abilities are cast by a sorcerer of the drow's character level. Does this mean that non-classed drow do not have these abilities? What about a drow Clr1?

Thanks.

I do not have any books with me, i did not look at the drow entry for a while and i am not sure what you mean by a 'non-classed drow'. But if you mean a drow with 0 hit dice, it does not make sense.

I guess the effective sorcerer level for the drow when using spell-like abilities is his number of hit dices. So a level 3 commoner drow has 3 HD so casts as a level 3 sorcerer. So there is no problem with a lvl 1 cleric.

There are no non-classed 1 HD humanoids. A drow is always at least first level... with the exception of children, who I'd say wouldn't have their powers. Or else they have a caster level of 0 (with all that entails for the various powers; if the duration is 0, it doesn't work).

Then what is the point of the entry in the MM? It doesn't list a class but all of its stats, skills, etc. Is it just bunk, then? I guess I missed the part about humanoids and classes.

The MM entries for such races list first-level warriors.

...what CRG said, but actually there are some humanoids with base HD without levels; they just always have either less (kobolds) or more (hobgoblins, bugbears, gnolls) than one HD. Odd, innit?

An ordinary drow is a CR1 creature because it has natural spell-like abilities. Treat them as being cast by a 1st-level sorcerer. Beyond that, you can add whatever class and levels you want, but the total CR would be total class levels +1.

At least that's the way I understand it.

from the srd:

Hit Dice

This line gives the number and type of Hit Dice the creature has and any bonus hit points. A parenthetical note gives the creature’s average hit points. A creature’s Hit Dice total is also its level for determining how spells affect the creature, its rate of natural healing, and its maximum ranks in a skill.

Creatures With Character Classes

If a creature acquires a character class, it follows the rules for multiclassing. The creature’s character level equals the number of class levels it has, plus the total Hit Dice for such beings.

CRG is correct. There are no non-classed drow or humanoids. The MM humanoids' stats are for level 1 warriors. You can change this, of course.
