D&D 5E What, if any, is the most fun level range in 5e? Has my XP mistake cheated players out of particularly fun levels?

A lot of people are saying we've got some great levels coming up! I'm looking forward to this! :D This is a pretty cool way to split it up mentally. I might nick this as a benchmark for the world around the players :P Haha, no worries - we actually did have to look this up a couple of games...

D&D 5E Thunder damage passing through silence?

Same here. I love the idea though and would try to give the opportunity for it for the non-sonic weapons you mentioned. I'm not sure what the shape of the silence spells is but if you had two objects on either side of the barrel maybe you could suppress most of the sound directionally. ie...

D&D 5E What, if any, is the most fun level range in 5e? Has my XP mistake cheated players out of particularly fun levels?

Yeah, I've got to admit I do really want to hold off most times a player is down and I will always look for a more appropriate target than the downed player first... But sometimes it just seems right that the NPC in question would attack the downed player over doing something else... and then I...

D&D 5E What, if any, is the most fun level range in 5e? Has my XP mistake cheated players out of particularly fun levels?

Ah awesome, thanks for all the replies! It sounds like we really are slowing down at just the right moment, so I guess we lucked out that I found out now rather than in another 3 levels time :'D I think the survival and "we may all die here" part is a little of what I'm worried I'm taking from...

D&D 5E Invisibility and holding items.

I'm not sure which I'd do, but if it is a set distance type thing it could come with some risks as well - the invisible rope is pretty handy when the player wants to lay a trip trap, but when you're trying to climb a ladder in plain sight and it suddenly disappears that could raise some...

D&D 5E What, if any, is the most fun level range in 5e? Has my XP mistake cheated players out of particularly fun levels?

Just to give a bit of context, the reason I'm asking is that I found out today that I've been handing out way too much XP - level 2 hurtled past super quickly, and after the big battle of last session we'd be done with level 3 after just a couple of sessions if I keep doing XP the way I've been...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Thanks, MechaPilot. I've not played anything before 5e, but that sounds about right. Unfortunately with Attack rolls and Saves being so heavily intertwined with the rules I don't think I'll use AC Saves. It's too complicated xD I have got a d20 per player now, all colour coded and everything...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

The dodge action already gives Advantage on Dex Saves (and disadvantage on Attacks Rolls against the dodger), I guess you'd just have it give Advantage on AC Saves as well. I've decided there are too many fiddly rules for me to use this though - I've ordered 2 sets of D20s with all my players'...

D&D 5E Flanking - Do you use it, and if so how?

A couple of my players requested flanking and facing on our last game. I decided that facing only makes sense if you are hidden or at the very least sneaking, and that the advantage based flanking rules nerf too many other fun abilities that would usually need to be used to gain advantage. Next...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Wow, I got ninjad so badly here. xD But this... this is what I should have thought of before starting this ridiculous thread. I hope everyone had fun anyway xD This is basically what I was going for, but just adding the bonuses to the other side each time I think could be confusing...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Ok, I've now skimmed through all the spells in the PHB and read all the responses here (thanks everyone!). I found 40 spells that use Dex Saves (For those interested I've attached the list. I've probably missed some, but there's only a certain level of thoroughness I'm willing to invest :P). Of...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Thanks, Oofta - that's a really well laid out argument. I think I am going to try it (once I've figured out which spells go in each list) but I see your point on the Dex Proficiency and will remove that part. I included it as many spells that are currently Dex Proficiency may become AC based...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Do you think the calculation is too complicated or determining which to use, or both, or something else? I've never played 4e but I'll be sure to look up the rules for it if that may help. Do saving throws exist at all in 4e and are only used for traps and the like, or do traps and the like make...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

Thanks for all the input everyone! :) I think that's pretty much what the AC Save would do isn't it? It just means the players all roll instead of the GM rolling once for everyone, or chucking a bunch for once each. It's not exactly equivalent if it still lets players use their DEX Save...

D&D 5E Would having an AC Save (similar to DEX Save) be a good or terrible idea?

I did a quick look around and didn't find any mention of this, but sorry if it's been discussed before and I just missed it. I'm considering using it for incoming volleys of arrows. The AC Save would be: AC - 10 + d20 (so if unarmoured it is just a DEX save), and if you have proficiency with...

D&D 5E A full on battlefield encounter (not just a skirmish) at level 2/3 - any tips, ideas anecdotes, etc? xD

Haha, yeah I've had a lot of forgetting the things from my notes. In the very first game I lost half of the things I was going to introduce in a big mess of paper. I wound up dropping half of it and introducing new things in the second session insetad. xD So do you think the rubber bands will...

D&D 5E A full on battlefield encounter (not just a skirmish) at level 2/3 - any tips, ideas anecdotes, etc? xD

Well I really appreciate it, thank you! And if I get any excuse to have a defeated PC held at knife-point and their lineage demanded l'll use it for sure now. It could even help keep a PC alive. :'D The rain of arrows scenario is the bit I think I'm still not sure on. For the most part I will...

D&D 5E A full on battlefield encounter (not just a skirmish) at level 2/3 - any tips, ideas anecdotes, etc? xD

Thanks Xeviat! I'm a little worried about this as well if I'm honest. The players have fortifications available and I'm giving all the invaders (except key bad guys if the PCs decide to target them) 'shoddy' weapons and armour with -1 debuffs to their atk, dmg and ac which will hopefully make...

Help. I've lost confidence as a GM.

Hey jayoungr, I'm sorry to hear about your mother's passing, truly. I can't imagaine how hard that must be. As for the gm confidence, I'm only just starting out as a gm and trying to find my confidence; one thing that has helped me massively is reminding myself that while I do have a lot of...
