    Haste and Refocus

Teleri_mm - I think we are discussing "Refocus" as opposed to "Delay". I believe they are two different concepts. Souljourner - Thanks for the response. Just keep in mind that, with Refocus you lose a partial+quickened before the enemy reacts: WITHOUT USING HASTED REFOCUS: (round starts) -...

Just how specific with a Ready action?

Drawmack - Thanks for the reply. Ex #1 - I agree - you need to pick a direction but not the specific target. Ex #3 - Agree Ex #2 - I agree it violates *your* "general test - rule #2". However, it seems to me that, due to no other information to the contrary, this will need to be ruled per...

Just how specific with a Ready action?

Here is where my problem is: In the original post: Ex #1 = fine with me Ex #3 = no way - you need a single "target" Ex#2 = this is where I need some help. ..Finally, I wanted to confirm my assumptions above regarding ready (as you click into the new round) and ready w/haste. Thanks! ~D

    Haste and Refocus

Stalker0 - To follow up, review p.80 and p.81 in Tome and Blood; Casting Times.. It seems to me that, similarly, full round spells (that do not allow movement and require full concentration) are hasted/speeded as well (even one full minute spells in fact). So, I would consider this another...

Just how specific with a Ready action?

Shayuri, thanks for the response - I feel reasonably comfortable adjucating a Delay, however, it does not seem very clear what your options are regarding a Ready. In the PHB, some examples are given regarding some examples of trigger events, but the SRD leaves this open. The DMG p.63 has a...

    Drow sleeping poison. Where?

City of the Spider Queen has a description and cost (75gp) on p.128 but no DC... Looked in MoF, S&S, T&B, and FRCS - based on the DC, effect, and cost I would set at DC25 if you dont find it elsewhere. ~D

Just how specific with a Ready action?

Just how granular in specificity must a ready action be? Examples: (VS=very specific; MS=moderately specific; G=generalization) 1. (VS) If an enemy approaches within 40' and I have an unobstructed straight line to the square they enter, I charge and attack with my axe. Additionaly, I...

    Haste and Refocus

Here is a simple one: Lets say you lost initiative but are hasted (before the round started). Can you take your partial action first then use your standard+move to refocus for next round thus gaining a net benefit of an extra partial before your opponent may react? Thanks ~D

Lightning Bolt - Destroyer of Magic Rings?

SRD - SPELLS: In a recent game, the ruling ended with a number of characters in the party wearing slag where once had been magic rings, amulets, necklaces, etc. Successful saves made by characters did not make a difference. The items got their own saves (+2 REF for being magic vs DC19...

    Fighter Feat Suggestion

I would vote for: Close Quarters Combat Combat Reflexes 1. Can be used while raging; 2. Tentacles, nuff said. 3. Dire grabbing beasties (claw/claw) Those two are life savers. The sunder chain is really good if you have a +3 weapon. At your level, you will find both situations (lots of...

    How to fight a wiz

Yeah - That wizard is tough, but there is nothing you can do vs good prep. I don't know who this Hedrack guy is, but if he is a high level cleric, he can probably do well given a use of the ol' spell resistance. The problem as I see it, is that you don't want to construct encounters...

    Full round casting and haste?

I like the concept of using the partial before the start of a full round action. That works for me. Otherwise the full round action is unaffected. However - Does this mean you cannot move after a full attack action? ;^) ~D

    Full round casting and haste?

Interesting question - At least more interesting than I first thought - What is a "regular" action? Can a fighter make a full attack (a "full round action") and then land an extra ("partial action") blow? Yes. Can a fighter take a move ("move equiv. action") and an attack ("standard...

    Scroll Writing Question?

As I say in my previous post, I believe the rules support a maximum of six spells scribed in one day on one (long) scroll. The key is to understand the definition of a "scroll" which I would take from the DMG as opposed to the SRD. BTW: I could not find any treasure table which had more than...

    Ioun Stone and Bull Str

Just a quickie to confirm my assumption: Does an Ioun stone which enhances your STR score by +2 overlap or stack with the spell, Bulls Strength? Thanks! ~D

    Scroll Writing Question?

Seems to me a "scroll" is defined: DMGp.199: If this is the definition of a scroll, then: PHBp.84: Seems kinda clear. That said, scribing a spell in a spellbook: PHB.p155: What does this mean? Spellbooks are expensive and take lots of time: 12th lvl caster - 6th level spell: Scroll...

    Vertical reach

Seems to me the question is not so much about vertical reach as ruling around whether creatures on the ground are ruled to "fill their square/cube" as it were. In your example, I would rule that unless the demon did not prepare a readied action, you would get by with an AOO (this might be a...

How do you kill a Black Pudding?

AuraSeer, I assume you dont mean hit points here just bonuses to hit and such. Correct? Do split puddings have reach? ~D

How do you kill a Black Pudding?

Question says it all. Lets say you are not totally immune to acid (but maybe have a protection from elements). Assume a party of four level 7 good guys (fighter, wizard, cleric, rogue combo). Any cheap magic help out? Spells? Also assume you cant run from it (forever). Ideas: Are a monk's...
