Does D&D combat break the fantasy?

The problem is that even if it were Robin Hood holding the bow, he still wouldn't threaten you enough to make you hesitate in your attack. No matter how good the archer is, he still couldn't kill you before you got to him. Now if you were playing using something like the "massive damage...

Does D&D combat break the fantasy?

Its just this sort of thinking that causes unrealistic actions to occur in the game. If someone had the drop on you with a crossbow and you knew he would shoot you before you could possibly get to him, would you attack him? But in the game, you would probably attack without too much concern as...

    If I don't buy 3.5...

You'll end up over at: http://www.dragonsfoot.org/ talking about the good old days of 3E. :p

What adventures for a WH40K campaign?

Sorry if it is an alien rip off, but any of the Space Hulk scenarios would make pretty cool adventures. Aahh... just give me my terminator armor and a stormbolter. :D

Does D&D combat break the fantasy?

Re: Re: Does D&D combat break the fantasy? I did say - we are all 3rd level. Why not, they are just human beings. The last time I checked, it should be quite possible to kill a human being from one shot of a crossbow. Easy? Maybe not, but hero's are supposed to be able to do things like...

Does D&D combat break the fantasy?

Now that sounds like a workable system that would make you fear combat. I may have to play around with that some.

Does D&D combat break the fantasy?

After a few sessions of being a player in a 3E campaign, I am starting to think that D&D combat just doesn't do it for me. Is it just me and my group or does the D&D system encourage too much metagame thinking and unrealistic actions? For example, my party (3rd lvl) had the task of breaking...

    OrcFest

I thought that this was a great low level module. It gives good, sound advice on how to play and how to dm. The adventure looks like a good one although a few of the encounters seem on the hard side for beginners. The best praise that I can give is that this is the only D20 module (out of the...

    Pre-Painted Miniatures

Here's the link- http://www.sabertoothgames.com/lotrtmg/lotrtmg.html WOTC better hurry up with their new collectable mini game or GW is going to eat their lunch. LOTR is a better license than D&D right now. And yes, GW does indeed own sabertoothgames.

[OT] I'm Going To Enlist In The Navy

My best advice would be to become a hospital corpsman. By far, its the best job in the Navy. You spend most of your duty at hospitals and you get the opportunity to go play soldier with the marines. I spent seven years in the navy reserve and not once did I have to go on a ship. I did spend...

    In Place of Chainmail?

my prediction- This game will be to WOTC what DragonDice was to TSR - an obvious attempt to jump on a craze that will ultimately be a huge failure. Initial sales will be good and so WOTC (thinking that they finally have their next big Pokemon type hit) will produce a million units. But in the...

    Alternatives to PCGen

When I tried it, it always gave me the wrong number of feats allowed. It gave everyone 3 feats at first level.

    KoDT fans out there?

I've been a fan ever since I found them in Shadis and have a huge stack of KODT sitting on my bookshelf. So far, its the only magazine that I have ever renewed my subscription to.

    Whatever happened to Carl Sargent?

I read sometime ago on the WFRP boards that he just left the business. I also seem to recall that he was a doctor of something as well, so I'm sure he isn't hurting for a job. He's definitely my favorite frp writer and the only one that I would buy stuff just because he was the author. And...

    D&D and D20 at Walmart?!?

Perhaps even more surprising than the fact that Walmart online is selling D&D stuff is that they are actually paying for placement on search engines for the term Dungeons and Dragons. If you do a search on Overture.com's View Bid tool for Dungeons and Dragons, you will see that Walmart is...

My thoughts exactly. They're just like kits, only worse.

    What color is your goblin?

I've always thought that it was odd that goblins are described as having red or yellow skin in the monster manual. I don't know about you, but goblins in my mind (and in my campaigns) are green. When did this heresy begin in D&D history?

    wizard/sorceror

Well, I gave it a lot of thought and I decided to go ahead and multiclass as a sorceror. The heavy number of spells and versatility of casting seems to outway the slower progression to 2nd level spells to me. However, I doubt that I will pick up any other levels or sorceror and will be a...

Kenzer's new Hackmaster Greyhawk and the revised Core Books

As far as I remember, Kenzer has the license to ALL of the products that were published for AD&D. So they have the rights to redo any of the 1st or 2nd edition GH products as HM stuff. Hell, they could also do Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, or Birthright as HM.
