How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

In reply to lutecius and for anyone else watching this thread, please attempt to answer me this question: How would D&D classes look if: * they still had some 4e attack and utility style powers (without shoehorning) * they had more star wars style talents trees customizability and/or trees *...

How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

Thank you for explaining. From my own perspective, I think the more ways the game can be enjoyed in the "right" way and it if brings different players and play styles together is good. I come from the camp that as a player I enjoy my character's personality, background and goals but I also...

How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

Do you (or anyone else reading the thread for that matter) see an alternative way to give characters class based customizing choices and a selection of powers that are not stuck on the at-will, per encounter, per day model of 4e but still gives you tactical choices not effected by the time...

How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

Are you changing powers in and out of the "slots" between adventures? If so, how many total powers do you envision a character having? How would you handle this so as to not effect the game's verisimilitude?

How would you improve 4e class powers?

Can you give me an example of how you envision class powers written up as magic items? Don't worry about balance issues, just throw something together in a format to show your idea please.

How would you prefer D&D class abilities to be handled?

What to you is the best way to handle D&D class powers? Do you prefer the 4e style of attack and utility powers? Do you like 3.x form of static class abilities? Do you like the Unearthed Arcana generic classes? What about simple class features of 2nd or 1st edition D&D? Share what you like and...

What would 4e powers look like if...

What would 4e's powers look like if the designers went more the direction of Star Wars Saga talent trees? How could the designers incorporate the 4e attack and utility options with the opened but grouped tree style choices and class defining themes?

How would you do classes and powers?

SWSE (Star Wars Saga Edition) style talents work like this: They are class features grouped into talent trees specific to their class. These replace the static class features of 3.5. When character's gain a class talent from leveling, you choose a talent from one of that class's talent trees...

How would you do classes and powers?

So, pretend your a game designer on a variant D&D design team and you are given the following assignment: We are building the basic class and powers part of the engine. Here are the guidelines: 1. Class features and powers should have 4e ease of use. 2. Exploits, prayers and spells should...

How would you do 5th edition D&D?

I appreciate everyone's input so far and feel there is some very good ideas in here. I understand some people can have some strong feelings about WOTC, 4e and what is the perception of big business changing the game they love. Let's please keep the thread on track and avoid anti-wotc statements...

How would you do 5th edition D&D?

Ok, so lets say 4-6 years have gone by. 4th edition and 3rd edition held on to their perspective customer bases. Pathfinder has built up its own following of 3.5 fans wanting new "official" style materials. 4e has brought in new blood but alienate some old blood. 3.5 was supported in weird...

restrictions on powers vs feats discussion

I think I understand what Justanobody is trying to say but is having trouble communicating it, and is now misunderstood a bit. I think he is saying that he doesn't like how 4e says you are getting a utilitly power here, an encounter power here at this level and a daily power here at this level...

Forked Thread: How would you have done 4e's Powers?

Forked from: Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS! I have found Stalker0's articles all very good. This last one got me wondering how our EN world members would redo the 4e powers system based on what Stalker0 is pointing out in his article. How would you do the 4e power system to do it "right".
