Hi! No they're not the same. Hardness applies to all damage except from a spell with the [sonic] descriptor or an adamantine weapon if the items Hardness is less than 20. DR only helps against physical damage but not against magic of any kind. But both do effectively reduce the damage taken...

Hi! Your Cleric is able to cast Plane Shift twice a day. Combined with Scry its pretty easy to get him back. You don`t even have to buy Winged Boots, a Fly Potion would do the trick as well. I'd buy them nevertheless just in case... :D Kodam

Hi! The only answer I can think of concerning the weight is, that the standard rope is quite thick and the chain is quite fine. Thick ropes also are quite cumbersome which might be final reason for setting the weight as it is done. Kodam

Hi! Deaths are up to 80.000-100.000. Thats one of the worst catastrophes in human history ever. On the oper sea, the waves just didn't look special at all and the next moment the buildings stood in the water up to the roof! Horrible. Kodam
