Fields of Blood at press - Late November ship date

Fields of Blood sound very similar to the Birthright Campaign Setting to me, or rather Birthright without the setting material and with a focus on the combat side of things. I currently run a play by e-mail game using the Birthright rules with 17 realm regents, 6 temple regents, 6 guild regents...

should nations have alignments? should tribes?

And I'd disagree with that, when you get down the bare bones of each system, there isn't that much difference, both use similar means of controlling their populations. Anyway, I agree this isn't the right place for a heated political discussion. This whole alignment for nations question is one...

should nations have alignments? should tribes?

In general I think you will find that almost all nations fit the Lawful Evil alignment best. This doesn't mean all the individual people of that nation are lawful evil, but the government and society as a whole generally is. Just look at all the nations in our world, all the governments are...

    SRD 3.5 Update

Looking through the other threads I've also seen the 24th mentioned, so I'll look for the update in a little over a week's time then.

Miniatures - The Magic: The Gathering Way - Good or Bad?

I think I'll wait and see what these miniture packs are like before purchasing them. I'm interested, as I like minitures, but don't have the time or patience to paint them. So if these miniture packs are of reasonable quality, I'll probably buy a few, otherwise probably not.

    SRD 3.5 Update

This was something I was wondering myself. Hopefully at the same time as the release of 3.5...

    [3.5] WotC motivation revealed!

Agreed, this is the primary reason I'm against 3.5, as it isn't very backward compatable. You can use 3.5 products (i.e. everything released from now until 3.75, or 4.0, or whatever), but everything single one will need converting. Just looking through the list of changes on another thread and...

    Any news on B5 yet?

I was thinking more along the lines of the scale of the map, with ALL of the various empires and homeworlds clustered around one another in a tiny region of space. I'll admit that my eyesight isn't great, but I can't see an obvious scale on the map. However, it looks to me as if Proxima (i.e...

    Any news on B5 yet?

I'll reserve my judgement until I've actually seen the book I think. Just looking through the preview I'm not that impressed, especially by the system map included which, IMO, suffers from a severe lack of realism.

[Heart of Nightfang Spire] Core Teleportation Question

I'd be inclined to say that he can do anything you want him to. Unless the PCs have a copy of the adventure you are using, how will they know what this Gulthias guy can or can't do? Personally I quite like creating adventures on the fly, and making changes to adjust to PC actions.

    New Feat: Bloodline of Evil

Perhaps you could make it into a chain of feats? Start with an initial feat (taken at character creation) that give the PC a bloodline of evil and then give him/her access to a chain of feats that would allow exploration of that dark background and a gradual increase in power of the bloodline...

Outrage! Let's send a message to WotC!

I will most likely buy the new revised core rulebooks, although I am ambivalent about the changes that have been made. I do like to have a nice printed copy of the rules nearby as a reference when I writing. That said, I don't think the original 3E were that broken, at least not to the point...

    New Feat: Bloodline of Evil

If it is a feat designed to promote roleplaying of a character with a dark background, then all the resistances, special abilities, etc, are not needed. Instead just a minor physical change (similar to Tieflings) would be all that is needed. Of course, I'm the sort of person who dislikes...

    Changing/Removing the Cleric

In my campaign I've removed the cleric as a class all together (because of a historical event that now prevent's gods granting spells to their followers). I have a NPC priest, who has few powers, but can use Relics, which are generally objects containing the remains of an immortal being who...

New Magic System in the making, should I take it on?

I use something very similar in my campaign setting. Basically to cast a spell you must possess an artefact known as an elemental shard which grants you a set amount of power to cast spells (and this power regenerates over time). 0 level spells cost 1 point of energy to cast 1st level cost 2...

Birthright D20, Does anyone know when it's coming out?

I'll just note that this version is only a draft, made available to the BR community for discussion and comment before a final version (which will look considerably more polished and professional if the early versions I've seen are anything to go by) is completed. If you wish to discuss the...

    Why I DON'T hate 3.5 edition

Personally, I haven't played a 3E game in two years. But I wasn't one of the people opposed to the new edition before it was released. In fact, if anything I was excited about it, hopeful for the future of gaming. I expected to be wowed by the new rules, but instead I was just confused and...

    Why I hate D&D 3.5

Oh, and I should point out, that although I was opposed to the way the d20 Birthright campaign setting was written (following the 3E model of rehashing old material) it is a beautiful product and well worth the download when it becomes available. I would have preferred something that introduced...

    Why I hate D&D 3.5

Now before I begin this long winded rant, I'll point out that I know that 3.5 will be available to be downloaded for free, but that does not invalidate the points I make. Firstly, I would like everyone to think back to what WotC said was one of the primary aims of 3E, i.e. to collate the...
