    More feats, fewer choices

Justifications are necessary when some rules seem to have been created with only balance and gamist considerations in mind and the "in game" explanation looks like an afterthought. I had no preconception of what abilty scores should be. Actually I even wished they'd redefine wisdom and charisma...

    More feats, fewer choices

That's precisely why ability scores should contribute to the appropriate abilities. The rules do limit the players' imagination for the sake of balance and simplicity. They assume things that don't always make sense (the Int bonus to AC certainly is a stretch) and some concepts simply won’t...

    More feats, fewer choices

The problem with 4e is that there is just too much of that. Having to come up with justifications for every wtf rule that the designers didn't even bother to give is not what I look for in a rpg. Such explanations are bound to be far-fetched or inconsistent from case to case, not to mention from...

    More feats, fewer choices

Your approach would only work if Int was the measure of a single ability. But it affects several thematically related things (in theory) like languages, knowledge skills and feats, and ability checks. Playing your high-Int simpleton wizard would require either to ignore these bonus or to find...

    Daily Art Preview

The black dragon's pose and proportions are off. Really inferior to the white by the same artist, imo. I could actually use that otyugh even though I never liked dnd joke-monsters. I have some reservations about Swekel's Pit Fiend and Balor articulations and musculature but that guy can do...

    Power sources. What's the point?

Primal, right... groundbreaking. I believe the reason why the ranger wasn't lumped in there this time, is that he made the cut for phb1 at the last minute, and they didn't want to introduce a whole new power source for just one class. And that's how we ended up with two martial strikers, too...

    Fourth Edition just feels... incomplete

Exactly. I am sure this incomplete feeling is part of the plan. They want the next books to feel like must-haves, essential parts i.e. core rather than options and splatbooks. So they intentionally left iconic classes, monsters and (arguably) races out of the first books and replaced them with...

The Final Preview - Alignment (Is this really the first thread?)

Good points. I think the problem is that, despite the "alignment vs personality" insert, they haven't really decided whether aligmnent was about personal ways or a "cosmic team" thing. It might work for Lawful Good, but Evil and Chaotic Evil in particular, seem antithetical to "alignment...

    Power sources. What's the point?

They don't seem to have any effect whatsoever. For example, Spell Focus only works for wizard spells, even the though warlock powers are called spells too. Dispel Magic works on Conjurations and Zones, regardless of power source. I don't think considerations like "what should the martial...

shouldn't this thread have a poll?

    Encounter Powers as Encounter Slots

You beat me to it. As I understand it, past level 1, none of your powers are the same level. Unless you deliberately choose one weaker than what your level allows, every new encounter power is a few levels higher than the previous. For example at level 7 you normally have one encounter attack1...

    Power sources. What's the point?

I hope not. These power sources seem arbitrary and make so little sense that I'm glad they don't have any effect (not that the roles make much sense to me either) And such feats would have to take into account all the classes that may or may not come for each power source.

The Final Preview - Alignment (Is this really the first thread?)

This is just what I thought when the names were leaked… clunky: the names LG and CE suggest the existence of Law and Chaos as independent concepts that bizarrely can only work with Good and Evil, respectively. Either they are unrelated so they should work with Good or Evil indifferently, or...

    Polymorph - Gone?!?

Yeah, apparently that's how they "fixed" what was broken. Same thing with summon monsters, and the druid won't have nature allies either. they have change shape at will. It alters appearance but not stats.

Gnome lovers get some love.. well kind of.

I don't know. Most of the rogue's abilities, including reactive stealth, seem to rely on dex. And the /encounter would benefit any class. I haven't seen it in play though. oh. I thought he had sold one of his shoulders. :)

What kind of computer game should be 4E?

Anything not done by wotc ;) (i.e. not buggy/ugly/messy/late)

same here. And does EnWorld charge for this type of advertising?

Will magic implements + magic weapons make high level multiclassing unfeasible?

That's part of the plan. They want you to buy the swordmage. I'm only half joking here, I really think actual multiclassing is intentionally suboptimal when compared to core classes.
