[Adventure] Serpent's Skull: Souls for Smuggler's Shiv (DM: Mewness; Judge: THB)

Noriaki turns up his lip at the discovery of a second trap. "More traps? Clearly this place was inhabited by someone of unsound mind."

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

Whoa, there. This is Dungeons and Dragons, not Dungeons and Dominatrixes. Pretty much. Fallen paladin arcs are fun, if the player is in on it.

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

Me either, which is why I refused to play paladins pre-4e. I've played three of them so far in 4e, though, since the alignment mechanics in 4e might as well just be guidelines. Whether the DM is telling me that my character physically cannot perform an off-alignment action, or that doing so...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

First Point: What you call challenge, I call tedium. And the advice about asking your DM before playing a paladin is solid advice for playing in a system that has alignment mechanics, but does nothing to convince me that they are mechanics worth having. Second Point: I recognize the...

Koukonsögur - Saga of the Trollfed Aerie - IC

In that case would it be acceptable to, say, ready an action to either climb on the boat as it passes, or to try and climb out of the water as I come in range of Tuket? I definitely don't want to get all the way on top of him.

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

This is a good(if perhaps unintentional) example of what I'm talking about though. Barring ridiculous cases(like a paladin going ape**** on some kids), the DM shouldn't be telling me what my ethos is, especially not what the nuances of it are based on two words on my character sheet. If it...

Koukonsögur - Saga of the Trollfed Aerie - IC

Cor, I am having difficulty reading the map. Satoshi is still going downstream toward Tuket, right? When will I be in range of him, and could the boat possibly pick me up?

    [IC] WD's Dragonfist

Song will pick up the dressing that had disguised his Tiger Fork as a ritual staff, and drop it discreetly in a bush. To the initiated, it is distinctive, Song's trademark, and if they see it left behind, they know his weapon has been drawn. To the uninitiated, though, it just looks like a...

Tomb of Horrors is not working out (spoilers)

So, you're playing Tomb of Horrors. Your players search every corner for secrets, they agonize over every decision, and any sense of immersion is lost in the dungeon crawl, but, partially because of their careful approach, they haven't lost a character yet. Isn't that pretty much exactly how a...

[Adventure] Trouble in Daunton (DM: Nebten, Judge: Currently Looking)

Howler sheathes his swords, the better to cross his arms and glare at the old beggar. "Thanks. I thought for sure I could stab that pit into a bridge. There but for your wisdom go I. Anyway, you're down here to guide us, why don't you go first?"

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

All of the above. See, I have a problem with that. If alignment hadn't had any mechanics on it, and had just been a footnote on my sheet, sure, it would have been fine. But this meant that I was going to have to lose my rages, and have to start taking levels in a new class, just because we...

Resist 5 - how does it work

Yeah, for completely separate damage types and rolls, I don't see why resist wouldn't work twice, if you resisted each type. The attack is almost certainly homebrew, so he may think differently, but there you have it.

Resist 5 - how does it work

Most attacks don't do separate damage types. A flaming sword, for example, would just be fire damage. A fire and ice spell would do X fire and ice damage(all mixed together). If he's specifically separating it like that, then I could see an argument for separate resists working on each type...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

Yeah, and with that knowledge, putting in alignment mechanics seems silly. Good for you. I can recall at least ten hours worth of such arguments, though. And that's just what I've personally participated in. The Catholic Knight and the Islamic Warrior's argument could be very cool, and I've...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

The way it always seemed to me is that alignment was described in exactly the wrong amount. It was spelled out enough that a reader could get a clear picture of what each alignment was, but not so clearly that everyone got the same picture. Thus, alignment arguments.

Things not to do at the table. CAUTION!

When flirting with the [female NPC], do not actually pinch the DM's bum. Do not insist the entire table watch you Meditate, just so they get the idea.

Is Magic a Setting Element or a Plot Device

Actually, the rules seem clear on this, at least for the SRD. As we can see, Wall of Iron is an instantaneous spell. Dispel magic cannot dispel an instantaneous effect, since the magic creates the wall, then is done. "The effect of a spell with an instantaneous duration can’t be dispelled...

    [Sell Me On] Nentir Vale

Sandbox is not the word I would use for Nentir, mainly because that word is also used to describe a playstyle that the setting doesn't have to used for. Here's the thing with Nentir Vale, though. If you want it to be a setting, it is. If you want to use it that way, it works. On the other...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

Odd, the most successful evil campaign I've been in was in 4e, and from what I've seen, it doesn't work any worse for them than any other edition.
