D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

That in particular has been an annoyance for me. Rangers are not trained in CON, and CON is not their primary attribute, Hunter's Mark is expected to be a main ability of theirs, yet (at least for melee Rangers) they won't be able to maintain it with any consistency. It basically puts a feat...

D&D 5E The most obvious spell, and it's always missing

I lock my door and turn my phone to do not disturb when I go to sleep, works well to compel people not to disturb me, minimal magic required ;)

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

Sure, you take on more risk if you try to run multiple spells that way, directly from the concept of having to make a concentration check for damage, but indirectly because you will draw more fire as the source of multiple ongoing spells. But the problem with the checks are with defense spells...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

Blur would be worth it if it didn't drop easily once you got hit. Others probably as well, so only one concentration at a time isn't so much of an issue for me as having to make the damage checks, especially for defense spells where you *need* them to protect you from attacks, or others like...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

There are two main elements offhand to Concentration spells though: 1. Concentration spells can be disrupted through a DC from damage, and 2. If you have a Concentration spell running, you can't have another running. You could probably dispense with #1 without impacting balance much, so long...

D&D 5E Sleep is not a save-or-die spell (minor rant)

One way to look at sleep is that it is like doing a form of subdual damage. Sleep is definitely not "save or die" because: a. It does not involve a save, and b. It does not circumvent HP to defeat the foe. Lacking either of the foregoing disqualifies it from being "save or die".

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

I think the time involved is unknown. We have no idea how long casting a spell takes for instance, but certainly no more than 6 seconds. Combat back in 1e era was considered not to involve a single swing, but some back and forth for a round, I haven't looked to see whether it is defined one...

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

I doubt I would care about the double-switch taking the interaction personally. I would like people to be able to hand the blade off briefly, use the open hand to turn a door knob, then switch the weapon back into the hand as they nudge the door open, seems reasonable in the grand scheme of...

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

We do not have different ideas about shields, obviously the +2 is meant to reflect a middle of the road shield. While the video showed a person wielding a buckler, his discussion was not limited to bucklers. The handle in your image can be either a thick bar or a thinner strap, the latter of...

D&D 5E Can sheathe the sword, cast one spell, and drow the sword WITH Interacting with Objects Around You ?

By RAW, no. The Interacting with Objects table provides examples, the first one of which is "draw OR sheathe a sword", not "draw AND sheathe a sword".

    D&D 5E Eldritch Knight Spellcasting don't use a Spellbook?

That's an interesting idea. I think that for the EK and AT, to keep them still somewhat thematically connected to the books, maybe a good approach might be say they each get 2 schools, one of which must be one of the two listed for the class, and the other can be any other school. Two of any...

    D&D 5E Sleep spell overpowered?

Actually that's still quite powerful, basically like a Time Walk or mini-Haste type effect. If half the foes sleep, and the other half spend their combat action to wake their sleeping comrades, then the rest of the PCs get a whole extra free round of attacks on the Kobolds while not getting...

    D&D 5E Sleep spell overpowered?

Sleep happens to be particularly effective in that situation, but you can see another recent Sleep thread to get more perspective on it.

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

Just to be clear, sheathing a weapon and picking up a dropped weapon are both clearly listed on the object interaction chart, so modifying the action to either a Standard Action or adding an OA would be PC-penalizing actions likely not well received (sure, it *could* affect creatures, but not...

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

I missed this before. Actually historically weapons were often held in shield hands. They could actually be wielded in some circumstances, but for larger shields you could hold the weapon but not wield it. See at least the first half of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ1q-IfLDdo...

D&D 5E Draw a sword and sheathe a dagger with free action ?

Probably not, but it is important for someone to realize something is a house rule in the event they go play at someone else's house or in AL, at a con, etc.

D&D 5E Sleep is not a save-or-die spell (minor rant)

Guessing at what? If you attack, then you get your result, and often figure out AC, and a fighter type is going to attack regardless if the foe has a high or low AC, there's no guesswork there. If you cast spells, you have a decent idea of what is a good or bad save for a foe (i.e., don't cast...

D&D 5E Limiting use of cantrips - what are the consequences?

I haven't read but the first page of this thread, but here are some thoughts: 1. You probably want to minimize bookkeeping on the number that can be cast. 2. Here are some ways you can limit cantrips with limited bookkeeping: a. Allow PCs to cast each one once per short rest (easy to track)...

D&D 5E Sleep is not a save-or-die spell (minor rant)

That would be a house-rule though, since a Bonus Action can only be used for actions that explicitly use a Bonus Action; if you don't have such an action available, then you can't take a Bonus Action. RAW it would be a Standard Action, but even then, there are times in which it might make sense.

D&D 5E Sleep is not a save-or-die spell (minor rant)

It's other weak point is you don't know the foes' HP so you don't know whether it is going to be effective at all. It is not a save-or-die spell, as there is no save, and in some ways it is better and some ways it is worse (for the targets). I have seen across several campaigns multiple...
