[Sorta OT] Why do people follow leaders?

Max Weber made three idealtypes of legitimations of authority and leadership: - Tradition (monarchy) where allegiance is given to the one who governs through the traditional positions of authority and within the boundaries of tradition. - Charisma (despotism) where allegiance is given to a...

    How does Draconic sound?

By the power of my blood I will recall the power of ancient times. ...The power mortals have taken to them and named magic. Or something very similar. ;)

Should Scimitars be finessable in 3.5?

The Swedish rapiers were amongst the heaviest swords in use around that time, IRRC, and would more fairly be classified as sabres. If I'm not mistanken it was, in fact, the Swedes during the Thirty Years War that reintroduced the sabre as a cavalry weapon.

    Opinions/Ideas for Norse Campaign

Balder and Håd/Høder is a bit like Yin and Yang, they represent light and darkness respectively; summer and winter. Notice too that Loke tricks Håd to kill Balder on Midsummersday, the turning point where the day gradually becomes shorter and shorter. (And Balder is revenged by Vali (a thírd son...

Need evil fairy tales and fables...

Most fairy tales didn't have a happy ending to begin with. The morale of the story was that if you strayed from the beaten track (figuratively speaking or literally) you would die horribly. That said, a lot of fairy tales tells how the cunning peasant hero triumphs over the strong knights. How...

[3.5E] Is it just me or...

I dislike the blink dog art - it doesn't seem very fantastic - but the other artwork looks good, IMO. I really liked the old blackguard art, it was funny and harked back to the old 1E artwork. In general, it seems to me that some people take this game waaay to seriously: Wacky and funny artwork...

    [3.5] Face / Reach changes

Exactly. If you remove facing from the rules, which you have, then you have to have squares or circles for the "zone of occupation".

Vote for your Favorite D&D Artist [World Championship Edition] LOCKWOOD vs. ELMORE!!!

No doubt Lockwood is good. But Elmore is D&D. Elmore's pictures sets my imagination going and makes me want to play D&D. Lockwood's doesn't - good as they are.

    Who is Number... 5?

A party consisting of a Human Cleric, Dwarven Fighter, Elven Wizard, Halfling Thief, and a Gnomish Bard looks pretty good to me. :)

    Silly Undead Questions

@1: Considering Zombies to be about the equivalent to my Windows PC in intelligence it would probably freeze, eyes turned blue, and need a reboot to continue. @2: An English kidney pie takes priority. Orcs really aren't that tasty. @3: A bad case of indigestion, I'm afraid. @4: Ehm... They...

The newest Iconic... Gimble the Gnomish Bard?

Ack. Gnomes... can't we ever get rid of them as a PC Race? Size them down to Size T and make them Fey. Then they'll be useful. Nice picture, though. (But lose the beard, Gimli^H^Hble)

    D&D review: 1974

Arnold Hendrick? I wonder if it is the same as the game designer Arnold Hendrick who created i.a. Darklands (one of the great CRPGs, IMHO, and one I'd like to see updated), and worked together with Sid Meier at Microprose... *googles* Perhaps it is; this is what a Darklands FAQ has to say...

    Calling all Darksun DMs!

But why are your PC's starting at level 5? Start them at Level 3 and run some of the introductory modules. Or, if you wish to get them (and yourself) used to the Dark Sun-setting, you could run one of the introductory modules using temporary 3rd Level Characters - THEN return to their 5th...

    [D&D 3.5] Masterwork Craft rules

You're right, but I'm beginning to think "It's not a bug - it's a feature". Masterwork full plate is going to be incredibly expensive, but perhaps that isn't such a bad thing - it makes those things even more exclusive...
