    D&D 5E Zero Level Suggestions

Thanks! Yeah, the party ended up choosing Pally, Bard, Cleric, and Wizard. So all the big bads and villains will be archetypes of the other classes.

    D&D 5E Zero Level Suggestions

I've got a low-magic campaign running where only one version of each class exists in the world, with their powers granted by magical relics. PCs started out at level zero, before they acquired their relics and gained classes. I started them as Variant Humans with 16,14,14,12,10,8, 6+Con Mod HP...

D&D 5E How often have you played D&D 5e over the past year?

I'm running a Sunday evening game each week, a fortnightly game for workmates, a two-monthly game for family, and playing in iserith's Roll20 campaign. I'd say twice a week, on average, since sessions get skipped every now and then.

D&D 5E [poll] Monk Satisfaction Survey

I'm currently playing a Shadow Monk 6 / Diviner 2 in a Roll20 game. As mentioned, the mobility is the big attraction for me. In our last session I managed to move some 105ft, some of it vertical, to stunning strike a spellcaster that was dropping fireballs on the party in an enclosed cavern...

D&D 5E The Thug, A Subclass for Strength Rogues

I like it overall, but would change the Wisdom (insight) check to resist the lvl 9 ability to a Charisma save. Possibly set the DC as 8+Str mod+proficiency, so that it's essentially a strength based Intimidation check, but doesn't rely on you having Intimidation proficiency. It just struck me...

    D&D 5E Low-level Party going Underwater.

Don't forget that fighting underwater is tricky. It's all difficult terrain and only a select few weapons won't be striking at disadvantage. Also, if it's dark underwater they can't use torches for light. Darkvision/Light cantrip will be useful here, but might not be available.

D&D 5E Killing is Wrong: Adding Theme to a Campaign

Granted, I've only been playing/DMing for 6 years, which doesn't seem long in the grand history of D&D. But of the 27 players I've run games for in that time 20 of them had never played a tabletop RPG before. I've literally never had to admonish a player for the kinds of behaviour being...

Need help with a character concept

Aasimar tend to be created/born with some kind of divine purpose or destiny. This seems like the perfect setup for a martyr style destiny where perhaps this Aasimar's purpose is to be the keeper and protector of this evil blade. They have a quite literal devil and angel on each shoulder in the...

    D&D 5E Help me grok mega-dungeons

I think the best thing about this campaign was the structure. We spent 95% of our play time exploring, fighting and parleying in the actual dungeon and there were always clear risks and rewards. A PCs passive perception could be used to watch for danger, search for traps, or locate secret doors...

    D&D 5E [Homebrew] Fallout d20

My suggestion for Luck, to try and mirror the way it's used in Fallout: Every time a PC misses on an attack or fails a roll, they get a luck token. At any time they can hold up to their Luck stat in tokens. After any roll they can add luck tokens to increase the roll by +1 per token spent. This...

D&D 5E What Rules do you see people mistake or misapply?

The divination wizard's Portent use must be declared before a roll is made. The previously rolled Portent number becomes the result of that roll, and no dice are used.

D&D 5E What sorts of things are you working on? (3PP or personal use homebrew)?

Polishing a one-shot Intro adventure for new players. Writing and drawing maps for an island based hexploration adventure I'm currently running and plan to eventually publish through the DMsGuild. Also have a Xmas themed one-shot I ran last year that I'm keeping on the backburner for publishing...

D&D 5E Help me create a locked room whodunit adventure!!!!

It's all a ruse to keep the guests penned up in one spot. So the culprit can get away with a more elaborate murder that is yet to take place. Or the victim has staged the murder themselves in order to escape some malicious group.

D&D 5E Help me write some Firey Visions

The story thus far: Our Barbarian PC, named Urhn, got the killing blow against a fire myrmidon that had been crafted with the soul of an efreeti. In doing so, her mundane greataxe sprouted ignan runes and became a +1 weapon. Now the efreeti wants to get out and is sending Urhn visions...

D&D 5E What's your most interesting adventure party concept?

The group in my current campaign started off as the underachieving students at an adventurer's academy. The very first session was set in detention, as they had to perform the hero's most despised quest. Killing giant rats in the cellar. From the second session on they had graduated, but at the...

D&D 5E Do you feel 5e pressures you to build strong over fun?

Do you feel 5e pressures you to build strong over fun? I find quite the opposite. In my experience I haven't had to choose between the two. In 5E, regardless of what kind of character I have in mind, I find that I can make a viable build for it. So I can approach my character with a desire to...

    D&D 5E True20 Classes for 5e

Maybe a choice would work here. Arcane is Intelligence or Charisma Divine is Wisdom or Charisma Primal is Intelligence or Wisdom

    D&D 5E 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

That's true, it makes the dip a less attractive option later down the track.

    D&D 5E 5E classes that discourage "dipping"

I think there's is a really interesting point that's coming out of this discussion. As someone plays their PC each new level is compared against the possible dip and it sounds like most people are choosing not to dip. On the other hand, in games where the PCs start at a higher level I think...

How to get better at describing actions, not rolls

I think of it like this: The 'find-and-avoid-the-trap' minigame can be initiated by one of two parties. Either the DM gives a hint that the party should be extra cautious in a particular area and the challenge begins. Or The Players must decide when to use extra caution, and in the pursuit of...
