    Pronunciation of Drow

Drow? I agree that it sounds more evil as in slow... anyway with our french accent Drow as cow sounds ridiculous... and Dark Elves have a special sense of humor. ( -> ) As for the Bulette, well, if it isn't a French-derived word... It sounds french, and the -tte at the end is a...

    Gameisms...

Kai-bek it is then! Anyway it was written Kebek in old time, to get the indian word right (means where the river gets smaller) As for lightning bolt, we don't have any special verb, but I often use "zapper", or "cramer", but we prefer fireballs anyway. Word like curser(with an ai sound)...

    Gameisms...

I guess you guys wouldn't understand our insides, since we live in Quebec and speak french (we have tons of qualities). However, we (mostly) learned our english from AD&D2e books and Drizzt novels, and the Simpsons. We now have a ton of verbs we created using gaming english expressions, like...

    How long is a Greatsword?

In a LARP I've been I've seen a 10' long one. Guess the guy had a size problem :D

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Me too. I just asked why not, and the answer is "because it is a min-maxing tool, mostly abused in other system, so there's no place for it here. House Rule it if you want some. I will, I just got many suggestions.

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Bagpuss, I don't want to start a thread about RP XP awards, if you don't want them, don't use them. In my group, we prefer to award XP for staying in character and have fun than for lucky die rolls. D&D is the only game I know wich rewards by-the-kill. And for those who care, as far as...

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

After reading all of this, I think the system I like the most is the "no point for flaws", and the rewards are when the flaw comes into play. Actually, we have no such "system" in our campaign, but we tend to do it without thinking about it. It is rare that a DM doesn't take into account the...

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Yeah, that seems to be the problem with D&D, if I play a blind character, the other PCs will just say : "Don't worry, we'll get that fixed." Or: "Look how crazy he his! He refused that free offer by that cleric to get his eyes back!" just ranting.,.. ignore me

    Hong's pimp thread

Mine isn't, and we just had a big case of underage prostitution here in Quebec City, where a popular radio show host got busted, and the word they used in the news was proxenete(removed the accents for you yankees), wich is derived from proxenetisme. Normal people here call them pimp anyway.

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Awright then, I only asked a question (simple enough) and got the answers to go with it. I did not asked for "Are merits/flaws good for you, or for me?", just why. I know of how "broken" they are, but I guess with all those broken things in 3.X, there'd be place for more  Anyhow, I...

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

I agree! If the DM doesn't include the characters' background, how are players going to get motivated writing good ones?

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

So maybe my experience with merits/flaws experience wasn't normal, as I did not have these power gamer problems... I guess the D20 system, being level-oriented, has no place for merits/flaws. I just tend to like the other companies' games because of it, or maybe because of our use of it...

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Well, +2/+2 feats DO have names that sound like story/character, background-oriented. But what about a one-legged character? I'd like to play one (maybe even a Monk!), but how is it to be balanced? I'm not talking house rule or DM's judgement, but how to? For newbies?

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Mine does. As for the chronic disease, I am infected, so I like it :D I thought it sounded sarcastic, sorry.

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Ok, but since game balance is a chronic disease we're all infected with since 3e, then you can't play a rich princess who's 1st level. The other players won't get all these ressources, and as the "princess" part is fluff, the extra gold isn't. BTW, I don't play rich sorceresses princesses, it...

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

Never played that game, but this idea is really my type! :P As in Mechwarrior, where you got as much XP for fumbling as for getting it right, you learn from your mistakes.

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

I meant core rule, not optional.

Why the D20 system has no merits and flaws system ?

I agree that more mechanics means more problems, but we mostly never have powerup characters because of flaws, since the DM checks and approve all characters. I think 1 flaw/1 feat is way too powerful. Let's say that you want to play a princess. In the name of Game Balance, your sorceress...

    Identifying a high-level character

I tend to say no. If you remove equipment and battle scars, and don't disguise, there's nothing that screams high level. If it's all about attitude, then even 1st level PCs can look though.
