    Stout and Versatile Weapons

Best as I can tell, that pretty much sums it up, in case a second opinion is wanted.

Why is/was melee training so bad?

I'm not gonna comment on Toughness, but if even non-weapon users were taking Weapon Focus, I'd be inclined to say yes. Superior Weapon Proficiency is a bad example because the thing what may or may not be broken is what it grants access to, not the feat itself. Personally, though, I think a...

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

I still don't see the difference as being big enough to warrant a gold rating. Are they at the top of the list for several classes now? YARP! Are you "literally hurting yourself if you don't take this choice" by playing something other than a dwarf for these certain classes (the standard...

To Mike Mearls: Melee training and the Battlemind

In 3rd ed, multiattacking was the rule of the day, so it wasn't just a +2, it was a +2 x the number of hits made in a round. How many MBAs are people making in a round in 4E that aren't defenders begging mobs to do provoke them?

To Mike Mearls: Melee training and the Battlemind

There's an upper Heroic tier pair of gloves (iirc) that gets you at-will Mage Hand and Prestidigitation, so I don't see why there couldn't be items that cover the others.

Why is/was melee training so bad?

The flavor of the Slayer makes me think some of the higher level class abilities might, in fact, be things keyed off of STR, but unless it's more damage, I doubt people will be bothered by getting a +2 or +3 bonus to whatever they may or may not be and leaving it at that. As for the second...

To Mike Mearls: Melee training and the Battlemind

NO LIGHT FOR YOU! #cantripnazi Put in that light, I'm fairly certain Avengers will be getting some help in the way of a feat or some more MBA at-wills which are able to be chosen by a broader-range of Avengers. I wouldn't be surprised to see both.

Why is/was melee training so bad?

So how would you design a couple of builds that focus entirely on enhancing MBAs (or just BAs in general) what wouldn't run into problems with using Melee training for stat swapping?

To Mike Mearls: Melee training and the Battlemind

The "archetypical wizard" there also didn't really use many spells beyond maybe a cantrip here or there. I say Wizards should cast way, way fewer spells and get mostly [w] powers.

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

The difference in power is still (technically "is going to be") nowhere near as big as you are making it seem, Aulirophile. Dwarves that get +2 STR and CON are NOT so much more powerful that they're suddenly the automatic choice if you want to play a STR-based defender to the point where no one...

    I Just Pre-Ordered the 4.5 Red Box...

Also definitely happy that they're making the Red Box. For all of the reasons stated so far and maybe a few more. I just think it's a good thing all around. It just makes me happy that there's a cheap and easy to spot entry point for the game for people brand new to it.

    I Just Pre-Ordered the 4.5 Red Box...

Well, if you think of each PHB as a "new content adding patch", then I think the essentials would be 4.3.numbers (4.3.1.numbers for the "first" Essentials book, 4.3.2.numbers for the "second" and so on). PHB being 4.0.1.numbers, MM being 4.0.2.numbers, and DMG being 4.0.3.numbers (MM and DMG...

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

You make it sound as if the differences are suddenly huge when they weren't before, though. They're not. And the only people I can really see who are overly affected by this are those who are only going to choose the race/class combo that is (by often tiny percents) the best for the class...

Forgotten Realms print rpg products in 2011?

I don't honestly have a problem with people disliking the setting (I'm not a fan of the 4E version of it, mostly because I liked the flavor it had prior to the Spellplague), I just think that using the "too many BDHs out there already" argument is a crutch of an excuse, to me. Or, if not an...

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

Yes, we get that Dwarves are going to be a little better at being most types of Fighters than humans. Or any other class that gets good mileage out of CON and (STR or WIS). But how are their Wizards in comparison? Their Psions? What about their Rogues? Sorcerers? Other classes that don't have...

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

I said something similar over at the WotC boards, but stuff like this makes me scratch my head at people saying how humans are so bad off. Really? Then why are they almost always a sky blue choices in almost every class guide I've come across (that uses that rating convention, anyway)? I mean...

Race Character Optimisation: Just Choose Dwarf

I like that they get the choice between the third at-will or the racial power (which is pretty awesome on its own). Sometimes that third at-will can be a really great thing, sometimes it's not overly thrilling.
