Do Thri-Kreen Need Errata?

All they really had to say is that Thri-Kreen cannot wield weapons or shields in those hands.

Uhhh

I guess they could have been more blunt as you said and say that they're considered 2 handed unless a power specifically states otherwise.

Because they're BROKEN I tell ya, BRO-KEN!

My new hybrid is going to be Swordmage with a Fullblade and a Heavy Shield while still having a free hand for warding. AC 29 at 6th level ftw!
Hmmh, no, not fullblade and heavy shield when reading Scribbles quote carefully...

But you could read it as if swordmage warding could work... hmmh... but well, no!

Considering the weight of a dagger, those are some pretty wussy middle arms. Can they hold ANYTHING?

Looks like I'll be adding another thing to my "Things I don't like about 4Ed" list.

Let's say it's as much a "finger" issue as it is a strength one. Maybe they can lift a sword or dagger, but their claws are poorly suited for actually wielding one.

It makes me think more of the prawns from District 9, now.
Not having looked at a picture of a Thri-Kreen in a while, prawns are all I picture. I'm actually imagining an all-Human-and-Thri-Kreen campaign setting now. Hmm...

Can't say I've seen the new art- do the secondary claws differ significantly from the primary ones?

(Not that that will change my opinion of the gimping of the bugs, but I AM curious.)

Besides, that's a non-answer: they're an intelligent species, they'd design their tools to fit their appendages. A thri-kreen claw-dagger would thus be difficult for a human or elf to grasp.

Or maybe they'd come up with something like a "Thorax-ripper"- a weapon designed for them to slash at an opponent's exposed midsection...exposed because of attacks from the main arms- or a "Thorax-shield"- a small shield grasped at the edges by the 2 lesser claws.

Bleh...just...bleh.

Which is why they have powers that let them utilize their extra appendages.

Hold: yes. Wield? No.

Holding and wielding are very different. I can hold a sword in my mouth. I sure as :):):):) can't wield a sword in my mouth.

My explanation would be: the lower arms are for carrying. They hold stuff. They're good at holding stuff. But when it comes to things like blocking a blow with a shield? Not-so-much. They just don't move fast enough to be useful in combat.
