Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

If you're keeping your campaign purely core, the Spiked Chain is definitely more under control. However, it can threaten at 10' and 5' (or 15'/10' Enlarged - without having to take the Short Haft feat), is a light weapon, has special trip and disarm bonuses. I think in 3.0 it might have been a...

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

Hopefully tying weapon types (blade/hammer or slashing/bludgeoning) into powers in 4th edition will make the choice more interesting, at least.

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

You probably haven't run into this. I wouldn't shed a single tear if I never saw a spiked chain again, in any edition.

D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

Not if it's anything like the 3rd edition Warlock.

Any inherent conflict between per-encounter and per-day abilities?

I'm not sure if selecting powers has been explained yet. I'm hoping that it's more like picking a spell/power 'fireball' and getting a at will, per encounter, and per day ability when you pick that power. Otherwise, if you have to pick 'per day' and 'at will' fireballs separately, you can end...

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

If you want a system with a lot of charts, you can look no further than Rolemaster. There's a chart for everything. Hit a monster? Chart. Ordering ale at a tavern? Chart. Taking a dump? Chart. Player: "I rolled a 12..." GM: "Uh oh, diarrhea! You've clogged the toilet! Roll for the...

    Printer Friendly Error

You can login to DDI by leaving a blank email and password and then clicking 'submit'. This leads me to believe that the postback isn't performing authentication. I haven't really tested it thoroughly, and I'm not too worried about it at this point. I think speculation about the entire...

    Printer Friendly Error

I think everyone is overreacting. I do .NET and ColdFusion programming everyday at my job and my thought is that the current login system is merely a placeholder that doesn't do any actual authentication. My guess is that it will be fixed by the time it matters.

    D&D 4E 4e Magic system, speculations?

I wouldn't be surprised if rituals required some kind of focus and material components, and take much longer than normal to cast. I expect regular (non-ritual) spells will not need components.

New Dungeoncraft: The Dungeons of Greenbrier Chasm

I agree. However, the PoL setup will probably make the cliché caravan guard scenario a bit more dangerous.

WotC_Shoe: A tiny, tiny hint on new weapons post-PHB

For most of us hard core gamers, maybe. But I think someone who might casually want to play D&D is going to balk at buying a game where the player guide is 500 pages.

    D&D 4E Testing "Try 4e" house rules

You need some other kind of rule that prevents certain situations where being extremely hard to hit (only on a 20) means that you're only hit 5% of the time, but are critted 100% of the time. I think this is the situation that helped develop the critical confirmation rule in the first place...

    Fighters -must- wear heavy armor

AFAIK, flanking is no longer required, so I don't think the term 'backstab' will apply anymore. Now a rogue will need something called 'combat advantage' to be able to sneak attack, which is apparently easier to achieve than flanking. I believe that combat advantage can be reached without the...

1 square Diagonal Movement: Reaction from Players

Very true. However, you said it yourself: the dramatic tactical changes will have to be demonstrated in play before most players notice them. Since we haven't seen the entire ruleset with respect to the 1-1-1 diagonal movement, it's difficult to estimate the exact effect this rule has on 4th...

    What about skills ?

Actually, some of the knowledge skills (Nature, Religion, Dungeoneering) are useful for monster lore. This occurs in some 3.5 monster descriptions, but not all of them. From what I've seen in the previews, I think this will be a standard for all monsters in 4th Edition:

    Fighters -must- wear heavy armor

I wouldn't call light fighters ineffective, but they usually fulfill a role that isn't that of a typical heavy fighter. In my experience, light fighters can often do some interesting things and generally have better mobility. However, they sacrifice the ability to tank well and deal a large...

    Factoring items into balance flawed?

Hopefully this will be handled well in 4th edition. From what I've read, it seems that lower level monsters can still appropriately provide a challenge to players, at the same time giving the players a relative sense of power fighting them. In other words, you might be able to throw a group of...
