    KOTS Healing Potions

Aha. I keep forgetting that you can only use second wind once per encounter.

    Opportunity attacks and spell casting

Actually, an OA is an interrupt action. From KOTS: "An opportunity action interrupts the action that triggered it. The most common opportunity action is an opportunity attack." Otherwise (if it were not an interrupt) then someone would move past you, triggering an OA and then possibly move out...

    KOTS Healing Potions

Anyone else underwhelmed by these? They require a healing surge to use and instead of the hit points you would normally regain, you regain 10 hit points. I'm not exactly sold on the fact that drinking one requires a healing surge -- not to mention the fact that a 3rd level Dorf Fighter and...

    Opportunity attacks and spell casting

There is no Concentration skill and as a result, he would still be able to cast after being hit (unless the power he was hit by says otherwise). Similarly not all spells would provoke, only Area and Ranged spells (e.g., Burning Hands is a close spell and does not provoke OAs).

    Dragonshield Tactics

I agree; this is how I would rule it as well. The difference between move then attack and a charge is the first is 2 actions, and the second is 1 action, which makes the reaction to the triggers different.

    "Charging provokes attacks of opportunity."

From the KOTS module, you only move your speed (not speed +2) and do not grant combat advantage. After reading a few things and writing my own thread about the wording, I've come to this conclusion: A Charge is a standard action where you move your speed and attack with a basic melee attack at...

    Charging Rules

Hmmmm... I guess I'm confused because it says, "Charging provokes attacks of opportunity". If the scenario is 1 PC vs 1 monster, then this statement isn't really true if the movement part of charging is the only thing that provokes OAs. Bad wording, I think.

    Charging Rules

So, it seems charging is only really useful now when the target can't make an opportunity attack, since it provokes an OA. I was reading through the KOTS and noticed that the kobold minion tactics in one encounter was to charge the PCs, which seems a bit silly when you die in one hit. Unless...

    Excerpt: Swarms

Ongoing damage of the same type isn't added together, only the higher number applies. That being said, you might be right as the stirge ongoing damage is untyped, even though it's implied physical damage.

    KOTS Wizard Spellbook Question

I just my copy of KOTS and I was reviewing the PCs and noticed the Human Wizard has the Spellbook class feature that allows them to have one extra daily spell that they prepare at the end of an extended rest. At first level, this is Acid Arrow or Sleep, so the Wizard can prepare either for use...

    Monster Power Recharge

That would make sense. That being said, I think the only argument against this would be if you only roll once for all recharge powers per monster (maybe the monster designer doesn't want all powers to recharge on a 6).

So any bets when the first books will show up?

My Amazon pre order of KOTS shipped today: Shipment Date: May 19, 2008 Destination: Davis, CA, United States Estimated Arrival: May 24, 2008 I realize this isn't the core books, but at least it's something to whet my appetite.

    No 4th ed D&D computer game...why? :(

That's too bad, as Bioware is a great developer with experience in RPGs. I'm sad that Black Isle is gone.

    No 4th ed D&D computer game...why? :(

I don't know, as D&D Tactics was released for the PSP. While it wasn't supposed to be a great game, I think there is still a market for tactical strategy games like this. I really loved Temple of Elemental Evil on the PC, despite its many bugs, but this game might be a bit too hard core for...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Ranged 8/16? On the Hill Giant: Hurl Rock (standard; at-will) Ranged 8/16; +15 vs. AC; 2d6 + 5 damage. What exactly does Ranged 8/16 mean? I haven't seen this before...

Why does WotC have to apologize for making money?

I pretty much agree with you. I can empathize with players that have $2000 worth of 3rd edition books feeling sad that the new edition will basically render their collection obsolete (if they choose to migrate to it). That being said, spending $2k over 5 (?) years in a hobby makes D&D one of...

    Any Confirmation of Pay-for-PDFs?

There are probably other factors at work here. I don't think your local B&M would like it much if you had to pay full price for the PHB from them but could buy it at 50% from the WotC website. The gaming industry suffers the same fate: usually there is no discount between buying a retail copy...

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

An easy method would simply have each PC affected by an AOE to roll the attack die themselves, and tell the DM the difference in the roll. For example, if you are attacking AC +10 in an AOE, have the PC's affected each roll their own die against their own AC. If they roll above their AC or the...
