    Beardless combat rules...

GET WITH THE 21st CENTURY! People used to play without beards simply because they didn't have the resources to do so. Not Everyone could grow a beard back in the 70's and even in the 80's if you wanted to play a bearded game, you had to create alot of your own accessories. Just TRY to find a...

Fireballs, Force Orbs, and Ranged Attacks

Anyone who'd tell their players that they can't target the ground or use otluk's to block a passage or a lightning bolt to power a gnomish time travelling DeLorean has no place being a GM. Your job is not to tell the players what they can't do, it's to decide how the results will entertain them.

Can Solos use more than 1 AP per encounter?

If the dragon has 2 AP as an NPC, I would assume he could use them both in an encounter (but not in the same round). If I recall, PC's can only have 1 AP at a time anyway (regardless of how many they can use), so the dragon you describe already seems to be an 'exception' to the rules. Of...

Different classes still get different HP: why?

You could similarly say that a warrior only needs Str because his base HP numbers compensate for lack of Con and armor compensates for lack of Dex. In actuality, if the speculation that Fort saves are based off of the higher of Str/Con, it would further make sense to invest in only one of those...

Different classes still get different HP: why?

Hopefully the decision used a little math beyond the assumption that the warrior will be "front line" and therefore needs HP. In general, balance should be based around Survivability * Effectiveness = Power. Unfortunately, neither the Survivability nor the Effectiveness numbers are easily...

new death save == leave your buddy on the floor for 3 rounds?

Yes, on a 20, you stand back up with 1 hp.

new death save == leave your buddy on the floor for 3 rounds?

You assume that the person is still lying down at the end of 2 rounds. That means that you pre-suppose he did not stand up during those rounds. This is conditional probability. Trust me man, I'm an actuary with a degree in statistics. If the question was "What is the chance of someone who...

new death save == leave your buddy on the floor for 3 rounds?

The 9% assumes that you have been on the ground for 2 rounds. That means you haven't stood up on the prior two rounds (conditional probability). Also, a strike happens on a 1-9, not a 1-10. I made that mistake with my first round of numbers too. ([Chance of strike]^3)/([Chance to not stand]^2)

new death save == leave your buddy on the floor for 3 rounds?

By the numbers: - You have a 27% chance of surviving without help. - If you have "two strikes", you only have a 10% chance of living without help. - During the first 3 rounds, you are 15% likely to recover fully. - You are 9% likely to die on your third round on the ground. - The average...

    D&D 4E Level 1 4e campaign idea -- help me vet it

I like the idea of inheriting the keep, but you should add the mystery of who is leaving it to them and why. You can either have a representative from the estate lie about who it's from and why or just have him die before he can explain the situation (mysterious murder as he goes around back...

    Gleemax Q&A

No WotC website or application has ever been decent and I've frequented them since news groups were the only alternative. I've played every edition of D&D since my basic box set and loved all except 2nd ed. I've played MtG since beta and in pro tourneys and nationals. I already have a 4th Ed...

    Multiclassing and Powers/Day

I'm very interested in this topic as well. Given the lack of variety in the initial class listing, multiclassing will probably be one of the primary tools for making the rules fit some of the more interesting character concepts people in my campaign are looking for. I think the obvious part of...
