    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Question for Gary Gary, Besides the typical game-related paraphernalia (DM notes, maps, pictures of rooms a la "Tomb of Horrors" or the Barrier Peaks Expedition), have you used or do you use other props, etc. to accentuate your role-playing? I never have, but I was wondering if there was...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Peter, First off, nice artwork on the books. My internet travels led me to your website. I was impressed. Good work. The cover art for the PHB and M&T book really captures the spirit of Swords & Sorcery, IMO. Here's the link I used: http://ravenchilde.com/cncgallery/index.htm Secondly...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I'm thinking my son will be following in my footsteps. Besides, his mom, two uncles, and two aunts all game. Plenty of good gaming influence all around! I can say that it works for shattered collarbones. I was praying the moment I hit the endboards! :heh: That sounds promising. I know...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I am one person who will be thrilled to see its fruition realized. Too true. Because of a transfer, a layoff, and a shattered clavicle (ice hockey injury!), my online life diminished for a few years there. Now, I feel like it has been turned from stone to flesh! Thanks, Gary. I...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Hola Gary, I am very glad to see you're doing well and still plugging away on the creative front. I look forward to purchasing the Castle Zagyg series as it is released. :D My name is Michael and I had emailed back and forth with you a couple of years ago from AOL (Hint: Red 1/4 was my...

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

Erik, It is good to hear what is on the horizon for Dragon. While I cannot answer why I don't buy Dragon (I am thankfully signed up for 31 more issues!), I do like to keep my finger on the pulse, so to speak. Per my previous posts here and on paizo.com, I am really looking forward to more...

What world has the best maps?

I agree with the first part of CapnZapp's "either" statement above. However, I like the Greyhawk map best because of the way the nations are set. The interactions and dealings between countries simply arrive from their location and their relation to other ones. I also feel Greyhawk looks more...

    Holiday Customer Service Hell.

When I worked at a supermarket, Thanksgiving was our "big" holiday. One year, on the day before Thanksgiving, all the fresh turkeys were sold out. The frozen ones started flying off the shelves until just one was left. Two women were literally fighting over it in the aisle. I'm thinking...

How many Dragon Magazine articles do you normally read each month on average?

While I agree that I now find Dungeon a heck of a lot more useful (being a DM and all), Dragon has become the magazine that my wife and I both read. As a player (wizard), she likes looking at the new spells issue to issue. Her other favorite is the selection of comics (especially Zogonia)...

[POLL] Multiple RPG Books in Your Group?

As DM, I have almost bankrupted myself with new monster books, while we all own a copy of the PHB. :p The only non-core book that the DM and a player owns is the Epic Level Handbook. My brother is just itching to get to the epic levels...

How many female gamers in your group?

My current group is 2:2. My larger group folded recently, but was comprised of 4 women and 4 men, including the male DM (me).

The Great Debate: 3.0 vs. 3.5

Dinsdale. Dinsdale. (If we're quoting Monty Python...) Anyway, I use a combo platter. I use 3.0 with 3.5 sprinklings here and there. For instance, I do not use space, I use face/reach. It's hard to think of a horse or other rectangular in "square" terms (2 x 2 instead of 1 x 2). I agree...

Does EN World need a change of focus?

A few thoughts on this whole ordeal. 1) I used to come for the Creature Catalog, mostly, and to check in on new products. I still do the latter. The Tome of Horrors book ended my most pressing need at the time 3E came out. However, I have recently become a little more involved in posting and...

    Favorite 3.0 class book?

Third Party books were best I agree with Crothian. The Quintessential and Path series by Mongoose and FFG, respectively, were both great. While I own all of the WotC books mentioned, the feel of the two third-party series were superior.

What is Roleplaying like to you?

I voted social event, reading a good book, and other. It's great fun getting together with my wife, brother, sister, and sometimes friends and spending quality time with each other. Being a DM allows me to "write" the book, but the main characters always do things I don't expect. It makes the...

    Dungeon Magazine #113 Is In

I don't want to start a flame war, Shazman, but I run THREE Greyhawk campaigns and one of them has spawned a fourth -- in that a former player has become a DM and games with his family now. Greyhawk is alive and well. Check out http://www.canonfire.com/htmlnew/index.php to see how "dead"...

If you started playing D&D with the Basic D&D rules, which edition was it?

Hear! Hear! When I first played D&D in the Moldvay box set, I was in pure ecstasy. I had to be the DM from the start and the Otus artwork in that and other works was the best inspiration for me. His work in the G1-3/D1-3/Q1 series is as memorable to me as is the adventure series itself. I...

Which edition of D&D did you start with?

My brother and I got the Basic D&D Set in 1981 with the terrific Erol Otus painting on it. When we moved, we switched to the game that the kids in the new town were playing -- AD&D, because (they said) it allowed you to play a race AND a class together. Of course, we ended up playing humans...

What core 3.5 race is the weakest?

I went with Half-Orc. Only because they're always the stereotype of the slow-witted brute. Horc smash! Horc fight! Like Dr. Banner after someone makes him mad -- ALL THE TIME. Helves are close behind because, as one person wrote earlier, they're conceptually cool, but the human and elf are...

    What's your monthly gaming budget?

Hear, hear. I'm spending about $20 to $50 right now, but it's because there's so little that appeals to me than anything else. If they came out with stuff based on Greyhawk 576 CY, I'd be spending money like Imelda Marcos buying shoes.
