    Adult: GUCK development forum IV

Teleport spells do not function on unwilling subjects.

Do the Non-US Players and DMs use the metric system?

I use metric for sci-fi and imperial (or imperial-like) for fantasy. It's a setting thing.

Best RPG Book you've never used

Until recently that would have been Exalted, but now, hmm. GURPS supplements as research tools notwithstanding, Buffy or Ars Magica, I think.

Why is fantasy the dominant RPG genre?

Power trips aren't everything. Hunter seemed to have more success than Mummy, in Exalted, the popularity of Dragon Blooded rivals the Solars. I don't think it's a black and white issue.

So THAT'S why fantasy is #1...

Cyberpunk 2020 is one of the ultimate examples of dated RPGs. Transhuman Space was interesting, but I found it ignored a lot of problems that China and the EU would be facing over the next century and (comparitively) ignored India altogether. It's hard to make Sci Fi that won't date. Books...

Why is fantasy the dominant RPG genre?

Star Wars, Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu, Vampire, Mage and Werewolf have all rivalled D&D and the 'fantasy' genre at some point in their histories. Or you might argue that they all have a bit of fantasy in them. Save for star wars, there is an immense amount of resources to be drawn from running...

    Problematic player -- HELP!

This sounds like his kind of game is Vampire: The Masquerade or some other angstfest more than D&D.

Which D&D "cow" is least sacred?

Heh, funny that the poll largely reflects my view of the matter. Vancian Magic is the most frequently homebrewed out. I've seen some particularly convoluted replacements for it at times (one consisted of paying for spells with XP, based on its level and metamagics via some algebra equation)...

High magic, low powered -- is it feasable?

I would rework the spell lists. Beyond that, I might include something like the Grim and Gritty hit point system or nuxor the levels somehow

    Yes, another Sorceror tweak...

The first would be a little funny and I think unnecessary. I like the second though, it largely gives lower level spells and works more to round out the sorcerer, which == good IMO

    The world is 99% ocean

Interesting. It has the look of two, very, very large meteor strikes making all the land. Before those there probably wouldn't be much, if any.

    An "appropriate" system for LOTR?

The system is simple (simpler than d20), but the book's layout, while beautiful, is very convoluted, as no one page or even chapter covers character creation in its entirety. This is highly annoying. There are people that have corrected this issue on the web, but I've only heard about it and...

Do armies in your campaign go around raping, pillaging, and plundering?

Well disciplined armies will avoid rape and will likely even be dissallowed masturbation, good or evil. It's not an honor thing - it's about being ready and willing to fight. 'Good' armies, if such a thing existed on an undisciplined scale (at least on the size of an army) would probably about...

Aristocrat as a viable PC class.

My Aristocrat class goes as follows: 8 sp per level. Good Fort save At 1st level, and every even level thereafter (2nd, 4th, 6th...) the aristocrat gains a bonus feat. This feat may be selected from the following list: Acrobatic, Agile, Alertness, Animal Affinity, Athletic, Deceitful, Deft...

    Benefit of clothes

The latter sentence, yes. For the former, it is rare to find hunter-gatherer tribes that are not egalitarian (men and women may have different duties, but that's just sense - they both have their share of say in matters).

[OT] White Wolf's Exalted? Is this a good or bad product?

I've been collecting the Exalted books for the past two years now - I have all of them... I just started really reading them last week. Exalted is crack in gaming form. I have a D&D campaign I'm supposed to be running but I can't help it! Argh. --- Exalted has a whole assortment of various...

    Aging attacks and 3rd edition

Both of the points mentioned above are important (difference between elves and humans, and no current way to 'de-age'). Possible solutions include restoring elixers of youth and/or potions of longevity, and making aging spells simply bump the character up to the next age category.

    Forming of worlds

Another little-known fact is that there is a fault line running from Hudson Bay (IIRC) to southern Minnesota. It's old and has largely fused back together, but still over a billion years after the fact we get ~2.0 Earthquakes every now and then from it. Regardless though, all of Australia's...

    Item Creation as Skills

Potions, scrolls, 'charged' items are less expensive for 2nd-level and higher items. Some rods and continuous items may be more or less expensive depending on what it was assigned by WotC. Skill Items are -significantly- more expensive above +5 bonuses (I got turned off to the +30 skill item...
