D&D 5E Characters that annoy you (and/or the players who play them)

Maximizers - It's not about making an interesting character, it's about winning. Players that hide behind "That's what my character would do." Boring people who can't do interesting things with their character. Rules lawyers who are killjoys, explaining why the fun thing that just happened...

D&D 5E Players Killing Players for stupid reason

Cardinal Rule #1: Thou shalt not kill another player's character. Cardinal Rule #2: Gods do not interfere in the game. Cardinal Rule #3: If rule #1 is about to be broken, rule #2 is waived.

If you really insist on multiclassing, then whenever you want to.

D&D 5E How I think HoTDQ should of been handled.

I know who Tiamat is, who is Sammaster? Most players have bought core books and campaign settings, but do not follow the goings on at Candlekeep with fervor. Aside from the internet search I just did, I really did not know who Sammaster was, despite 30 years of D&D gaming, much of it in the...

    D&D 5E Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

I am currently playing a single class character in HotDQ, and will be DMing the next module which is PotA. I have noticed that multi-classing is used mostly for maximizing, and has little to do with character development (with one exception I have seen). Unless I have a player revolt, I do not...

    D&D 5E Who can use a scroll

It seems that if I want to cast a spell from a scroll... there's a feat for that.

    D&D 5E Who can use a scroll

Can a fighter with no spellcasting classes cast a spell from a scroll? The DMG (p139) says that "Any creature that can understand a written language can read the arcane script on a scroll and attempt to activate it." The scroll mishap table (DMG, p140) says that "A creature who tries and fails...

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Reading through the pages here, the "published adventure module" that most people are playing and basing their opinion on (regarding magic items) is the Horde of the Dragon Queen. As both Celtavian and myself (amongst others) said was that our parties have achieved fourth level and the magic...

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I completely agree. We're fourth level too, and the only magic we've seen are a couple potions and scrolls thrown in by the DM to help us out. Like us players, all the NPCs are waiting for the DMG to come out so magic items can be introduced to the multiverse!

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

It also depends how prevalent magic items are in the campaign. Can you order anything you desire on Amazon, and have it in your hands the next day? Or are all acquired items immediately put to use in someone's hands who can use them? Or are they so rare so that few characters below fifth level...

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Yes they should. But as DM I would make them expensive to buy and time consuming to make. Characters should have stories about what they defeated, not where they shopped.

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I don't like to sell magic items to my characters often, or for them to find them as part of a treasure haul. They should fight the previous owner for them!

D&D 5E If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

My plan is to take influence over a city, increase building of artistic and defensive structures, and attract merchants.

    D&D 5E Likes and Dislikes?

Most people like the retro feel to 5.0e, including myself. Old AD&D characters had very few frills to them, and as editions came and went characters were loaded with more options, which reached an apex in Pathfinder. This edition scales it back to pre-3.0 levels. Back in AD&D magic users were...

D&D 5E May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

I envision two different types of Eldrith Knights; those that would non-visibly cast enhancements on themselves (Message, True Strike, Expeditious Retreat, Longstrider, Shield), and the more "sword magey" (Fire Bolt, Prestidigitation, Burning Hands, Find Familiar, Thunderwave).

D&D 5E Rise of Tiamat Supplement is online

I wonder if they will keep the same pricing structure as 3.5e. For now, that is my assumption.

I like that too, and hope they do it with the other five stats.

    D&D 5E Full preview unlocked!

I view it as the standard, because it is the only published module available. It is the adventure my group is playing, and the one the other group I know is playing. Other than homebrews (which I will start one soon), it is the campaign everyone her is playing. I am used to the bounty of magic...

    D&D 5E Full preview unlocked!

Quite possibly, but anyone who has played D&D long enough to have attempted to write a module can guestimate on basic magic items for low level characters. I enjoy playing in a game where there is magic and enchanted creatures, and I would like to see a bit more of it.
