    [VtM]Help a newbie out

Well, going by the information so far, the ST doesn't sound very good. I assumed 'being told to STFU' was being in character. Maybe you should see about creating your own character, rather than this one the ST made. It seems clear that the GM doesn't like this character or anything you try doing...

    6-5 Rule of Three

I'm not liking the idea. I'm all for humans being the gold-standard, as it were, and the jack-of-all-trades. But I don't like the superior race feel. Now humans are just as intelligent as high elves, while generally being stronger, hardier, more dextrous(!), more charismatic, and wiser. I don't...

    [VtM]Help a newbie out

Well, who are you talking to? The only mentions of interactions have been with your Elders, likely the oldest and most powerful vampires in the city. You're barely out of your diapers in the scale of vampiredom. You may have good ideas, but to them, you haven't done anything, haven't proven...

Please step away from the 4th edition "effect everything" abilities.

It doesn't, if the other options are of equal weight, like what you presented. But if it comes down to "roll attack to do 6d6 damage" vs. "roll strength to push the golem to do 7d6 damage", most rogues will likely go for the 6d6 option. If that 6d6 becomes 1d6 because of the creature's immunity...

Please step away from the 4th edition "effect everything" abilities.

So the PCs should never be countered ever? I can agree that it shouldn't be a constant thing, but for the odd encounter, I have no qualms of somebody being less effective than usual. That adds to the challenge of the encounter. Say with that 3E rogue, the party now can't rely on being able to...

    D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: Dragons

I'd agree with you to an extent. The focus was shifted towards encounters and combat. But I'd more say that they just didn't want to tell you how to run your non-combat encounters. 4E dragons are as multidimensional as you make them. If you just consider them combat brutes, then that's all...

How Do you Feel About Healing Surges? (Read First!)

I'd like to see too. I play a swordmage, though you don't have to wait until Paragon to mark more. Swordmage's Decree lets you aegis mark all enemies in burst 3 (daily), plus they have a few abilities that give non-aegis marks. And the blocking of damage, even once/round, can really make a DM...

How Do you Feel About Healing Surges? (Read First!)

Overall, I like the healing surge concept. Recovery rates are a separate issue. As is the term they are called by (I still find it strange to hate a concept based on what it's called, though I suppose I can see how the name can generate misconceptions). I like Surges as they helped move away...

    Wizard robes ideas

It would have to be worded carefully. As someone suggested, if the +1 offensive bonus of the robes was treated as an Implement bonus, then it's no different than if the wizard got a +1 wand instead. And if the wizard does get a magic wand later, the robes will then provide no bonus.

    D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: Dragons

Sure it is, and if the creature has the ability, it's listed. 4E blue dragons aren't illusionists, and don't have Mirage Arcana. If they did, it would be listed, with a description of the ability, which then gives you ideas on what it's capable of. Admittedly, 4E has few out-of-combat abilities...

    D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: Dragons

I'm not sure I'm following. It sounds like most of your encounters are random, so I'm not sure why it's important for the game to tell you how to use them, since you'll have to work to make it fit to the context of the game. Though I can see such information at least giving you ideas as to what...

    warlord healing

I'm curious as to why temporary hit points are perfectly acceptible to the mind-set of some, while the concept of hit points being more than just physical is not. If all damage was just physical damage done to physical HP, how to morale-inspired hit points work? Reading some of the threads...

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

I'm not sure how strict the Pacifist Cleric is ... though I think RAW they can attack unbloodied creatures. But it sounds more like you want a true pacifist and not attack and do damage at all. Lvl 1 -Cause Fear, while it does make an attack, it does no damage, and I would consider usuable by...

    D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: Dragons

Totally at a loss here. How can a book providing you with an overabundance of what you're looking for be something that doesn't matter? Which is exactly what I want in a monster manual entry. I don't want possible suggestions or examples of context, because 9 times out of 10 I won't use it...

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

But that's how support classes have always been. No healer just stands there and heals all combat (at least not in my experience). They often have other spells and abilities to buff/debuff (say a spell like Bless), and sometimes that cleric did just go in and whack something with their mace. If...

    D&D 4E Things wrong with 4e: Dragons

It's called a Volcanic Dragon (though maybe not entirely correct, as even though it's not fireproof, it does seem to be immune to all-encompassing natural gas explosions that it causes) ... how this creature lives in volcanos (at least for very long) is beyond me, though. A monster is what...

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

I am entirely unsure how surges make it so that healers can't act as support. Any leader/healer class is surpremely better at healing than having a character simply spending raw surges, especially since you can't just spend surges whenever you like during combat. All I see surges as having done...

    Falling from Great Heights

Well, depends on how into the details you get. Sure, HP and Fatigue are easy enough to track. But do we want there to be a Morale value, and Luck, and Fate, and so on? I too am fine with the abstraction of HP for most instances. But I fail to see how say Skill and Fatigue play a part in being...

    Falling from Great Heights

Well, as we've seen, it's not really possible to equate every single action in movies to a game that has nothing to do with it. I suppose we could discuss the D&D movies, but I shudder at the concept. But sure, we can try. Why can't the shields be considered cover in this instance? They...

    Falling from Great Heights

And how do they know this? If they fought them before (say at a lower level in the past), then sure, they have in-game experience and can judge based off of that. Otherwise, they are meta-gaming based on the assumption that all town guards are 3rd level (for example). But if you're traipsing...
