The Myth of the Bo9S's Popularity

Isn't there also a clear difference between how well a book sold and what people thought of it? ;)

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Hi Again - glad I could help point something out! Back to my original point - did you or didn't you feel they were a "balanced" race and if you did please could you elucidate?

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Thank you! I have been wondering if the plane that they went to is another opportunity to link in with the Melnibonean theme. The elite of Melnibone were the dragon riders - those with a special relationship with the Phoorn. It might make sense for a similarly powerful race to have...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Hi Nifft! I just wandered over to your listed homepage and couldn't help but notice that the Gnome variant listed there has the ability modifiers of -4 Strength and +2 Charisma. If this is your Gnome variant, and given your argument above, I just wondered how you'd rationalised the fact that...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Hi again! We run a human-only campaign but have developed each culture akin to the races in standard D&D - similar to the way it's done in the Conan RPG. As each existing culture has ability modifications it would seem odd if this new race which is a step different from humans (but ultimately...

Really like this idea but must dash as I need to be somewhere else! ;)

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Thanks for the feedback! See my post above - I've gone for Sorcerer over Wizard (which kind of goes a little away from the original concept but still "feels" OK). I feel that the -2 Strength and +2 Charisma now leaves the race a little unbalanced in the opposite direction (except with regards...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Point taken :D The more I think about it the more that making them have a natural affinity for magic leans them more towards a +2 for Charisma rather than Intelligence. But to keep them distinct from elves I would still prefer to go for -2 Strength and +2 Charisma with a favoured class of...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

Anyone have any suggestions about the plane as this might help flesh out what other abilities or penalties to give the race (e.g. they might have a benefit against a certain energy type but be particularly susceptible to the opposed energy type)? I'd rather not use an alternative "prime" as the...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

and Thank you for the suggestion, However, we don't use Paragon Classes for the other races in the campaign and I rather not add that additional complexity when introducing this race.

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

I'm fairly flexible on the energy resistance issue - it was more of an attempt to add another element of flavour to the race to differentiate them from elves and enhance the effect the "other" plane had on them. Not sure on the bonus to Knowledge (the planes) but thank you for the suggestion! :D

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

and This is really interesting. Page 173 of the DMG (in the Ability Score Equivalncies table) states/implies that a bonus to Strength is balanced by a penalty to Intelligence AND Charisma. My suggestion is merely to turn this on its head and give a penalty to Strength and a bonus to...

    Melnibonean-inspired race as LA+0

I've been thinking of introducing a new player character race using an existing plot hook in our ongoing campaign - essentially the entire inhabitants of a city disappeared during the last war which ravaged the continent (around 80 years ago). I've been mulling around the idea that the people...

Turning the post-apoc in McWod up a notch...

Or alternatively you could use the fact that the USA and China have had a (limited or devastating according to taste) nuclear war be the reason why the fabric of reality was weakened enough to allow the Iconnu to enter. In a limited nuclear strike senario, there would be the inevitable...

D&D 3E/3.5 What will we miss from 3.5E?

I suppose another other aspect of that is that 3.xE is relatively "complete" in terms of having rulebooks for virtually all occasions - when 4E launches with just the three core rulebooks will that be limiting? Also, will 4E go through a phase of real-life play and then be augmented by either...

D&D 3E/3.5 What will we miss from 3.5E?

It may be just the style of play we have but the complexity of character generation has never really been a problem for players as we tend to start new characters of at low levels (1-3) and then they grow from there. Levelling up has never been an issue since each class only gains a managable...

D&D 3E/3.5 What will we miss from 3.5E?

From what we currently know about 4E (or suspect we know from the designers' comment ;) ) what do we expect to miss from 3.5E?

Nemoren's Vault *Revised* - Anyone has it?

I have the original, the online supplement, and the updated version. The update is excellent and nicely integrates the supplemental material. IMHO it's a great introductory adventure for any new party.
