    Is D&D too complicated?

I agree with Dancey and SemperJase to a point. The game is complicated, but its always been that way. The difference IMO between now and 1978 is this: - Eliminate rules "back then" and it didn't matter too much unless you were a rules freak. You also had the Basic set rules to back you up in...

    Basic D&D rides again!

Yes I also was not impressed with the adventure set. Why? Because I paid 10 dollars for a sample of the real game. No matter how good it looked and what they included with it I was still upset at the limited amount of rules they put in there. Basically a sampler until you bought 3e which came...

    Turning Undead question (?)

Thanks again for the responses. Ignoring the diety that once turned you can be a little puzzling. I'm sticking with the rules.

    Turning Undead question (?)

This is probably easy or obvious but can anyone tell me if you can repeatedly Turn the "same" undead creatures that were turned? For example: Miles turns a group of zombies. The party dispatches the remaining zombies and proceed to search the room. The party takes too long and the same group of...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Bears and Hobbits Hello Gary, Long time no post from me but I'm glad I've found a part IV thread here in ENWorld. Just wanted to ask: - What were the circumstances on the hobbit race being removed from the original game? Was a letter from Tolkien properties sent to TSR threatening legal...

What is the Worst Class in D&D?

ranger, sorcerer, bard I voted Ranger but I think the Sorcerer and Bard in 3E are pretty worthless also. Hopefully future versions will correct them. (I hope they eliminate the Sorcerer though, the whole concept is pretty lame).

    WotC Sep-Dec Release Schedule

ughh Oh man. More sourcebooks that have the word underdark in them and of course more 'Complete' books. I feel like I'm in the mid-90's again.

Have you played without this rule?

Attack of Opportunities..... 3 years later and this big 3rd edition feature still bugs me. I finally played a game with my buds without them and we had great fun. We hardly noticed it, it basically felt like we skipped over a bunch of combat rolls. One global house rule I put in is anyone...

Can a paladin be an assassin?

3rd ed has really wet the appetite of those who want a character who does it all without restrictions. Play an assassin if you want a killer. The Paladin isn't one. Think of your D&D world as our own. How can you be considered a Paladin? A murderer would be a good description by a local...

[OT] Lejendary Adventure Primer is online

great Great! I cannot wait to read through this. I have the full LA rules as well and like the game a bit better than the holier than thou D&D game. I also have a hard time finding other players of this much less known RPG.......I hope the fast-paced rules are good for beginners...time for me...

    Back to 1st Edition?

hmm I never thought about playing the original game using some some 3e rules. Very interesting. The only ones I would probably take are: -- The Clerical healing rule -- The unarmed combat rules -- The Skills I would stay away from feats and the AC (lower vs. higher) rules. Mainly to avoid...

    must. rant. now.

The rules are presented as such (Huge Combat section just like earlier editions). It just depends on what type of adventures you play. I remember the Assassin's Knot, an old module by Lekofka I believe, not too much combat but lots of detective work, very fun module indeed. :D

    must. rant. now.

Think D&D is a combat oriented game. Always has been but moreso in this version. Simply create adventures that feature more role-playing. If its a player problem try to make them fearful of attacking that next group of orcs. (Try making encounters a bit tough so next time they opt to think...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

cartoon I never thought about asking Gary about the animated show. Sweet memories! I remember being 11 years old, eating Lucky Charms and watching D&D. Thats really interesting. Dennis Marks a producer for the Spider-man cartoon show mentioned he worked with you on the Dungeons & Dragons...
