D&D 5E How are you feeling about 5e?

I feel meh. Meh to pessimistic. I'm happy with my 4E game, and I know that I can play 4E for several more years without getting tired of it. I haven't felt a need for a new edition. Nothing I've heard from WotC so far has made me excited about 5e. To the contrary, i don't feel like WotC...

Anybody know anything about Kalka-Kylla? (From Tamoachan)

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I'm interested. The PC's are trying to bargain with K-K and Tecuziztecatl, and I'm trying to get a sense of how to proceed.

Anybody know anything about Kalka-Kylla? (From Tamoachan)

I'm running the 4E conversion of Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan now, and I'm interested in any mythology that might flesh out the various inhabitants of the Shrine. Most of the opponents in Tamoachan have some antecedent in Mesoamerican myth/history. Does anybody know if this applies to...

EN WORLD DUNGEON: 16 months until 5e. Let's start building.

Hundreds of feet below the surface world is a vast natural cavern, bordered by a subterranean ocean and ripe with giant mushrooms and phosphorescent growths. Thousands upon thousands of years ago, this dark realm was home to a kingdom of reptilian humanoids, the precursors to today's lizardmen...

D&D 5E Ideal DNDNext Digital Support

Like Piratecat, I'm not doing any out of the ordinary. I have the problem at home and at work, and none of the other sites that I stay logged into on either computer ever drop. I'll log into the DDi, hit "remember me" and things will be fine for a few days. Then it forgets me, and I have to...

    New Staff Blog: Run Away!

I generally prefer to make decisions about how NPC's respond during combat myself rather than deferring to the dice. Moreover, my recollection of the 2E Morale rules is that they were entirely too fiddly. Not only did each monster/NPC have its own morale score, there was a table of...

D&D 5E Ideal DNDNext Digital Support

    1. Remember me! I'm tired of logging in every other day. 2. Let me login with a username. Typing my whole email address using my iPad is a pain in the ass. 3. On that note, make your stuff work on my iPad/iPhone. 4. I shouldn't have to click two links and wait for a PDF to download just...

    [Rule of Three] 4/10/2012...

In 4E at least "encounter" is not an entirely abstract measure of time. An encounter is approximately 5 minutes.

Why Games Workshop is not a good business

I thought that GW had been on the verge of bankruptcy a few years ago. Am I misremembering?

Top end of +N weapons and armor?

To use 4E terms, I'd prefer items to have one plus per tier. +1 is heroic, +2 is paragon, +3 is epic.

Are you happy with your current game/edition?

I am perfectly content with my current game, and I am not particularly excited about 5E.

How many hits should a 1st level Fighter be able to take?

I'd prefer it if every first level character could survive at least one hit from any heroic tier monster. That way, a group of PC's could encounter an terrible foe, realize their mistake, and attempt a retreat without automatically losing a member. In general, I think a fighter should be able...

D&D 5E D&D Next: The Toolbox Edition (What's not to like?)

IMO, the most important line in the OP is "if they do pull this off." I hope they do, but I don't think they can. I think the goal of (1) producing multiple rules modules which work well enough together to be used at the same table while (2) simultaneously making each of the three big...

    Help with an NPC assassin?

I'm statting up an NPC assassin for my current game. It'll be a level 10 elite skirmisher. I'm looking for some sort of minor or interrupt power I can give it for a little extra combat oomf. Preferably, I'm looking for something with either shadowy or devilish flavor (the assassin has ties to...

    Vampiric Half-Celestial Animated Chair

You've got me beat. The most absurd thing I ever statted up was nothing but a half-fiend, ice element mimic with levels of rogue.

    Boots, high, hard?

In theory, I can understand the difference between hard and soft. Hard (presumably) offers more protection, soft (again, presumably) offers more stealth. But high and low? Also, I guess there weren't any written rules hidden in the DMG for this stuff, right?

    Boots, high, hard?

A question that has nagged at me since 1988: what's the deal with all the boots in the 1E PHB? You can buy high, hard boots; high, soft boots; low, hard boots; or low, soft boots. What difference does it make? Is that difference spelled out somewhere in the PHB or DMG?

    Opposed Rolls?

No. 1. As noted above, they take a little longer in play. 2. The probabilities for opposed rolls are different than the probabilities for 1d20 v. static modifier, in ways that I don't find intuitive.

    Wages, Salaries, and Earnings

I would go in an entirely metagame direction. Specifically, I'd assign a level to the overall challenge the PC's are facing, and then I'd pay them out one or more treasure parcels appropriate to that level. Then I'd slather the whole thing with fluff. To my mind, mapping out a huge geographic...

    new mearls interview?

The quote is "revised or updated with a whole new edition." If you take Unearthed Arcana and Skills and Powers into account, you get close. However, I'm of the opinion that new editions of D&D occur infrequently enough, and are instigated by sufficiently different groups of managers, that...
