    D&D Minis: Preview 2

I like 'em all this time. :) As the vast majority of enemies in my campaigns tend to be human/elf/dwarf/orc/etc., I can foresee getting a lot more use out of these than the ones in the first preview. I agree with several others in that I particularly like the cleric. Regards, Darrell

Death and Dying: Annoying new subsystem reduces fun.

I agree. I also agree with the OP that it's an "annoying subsystem," but I'd say it was an annoying subsystem in 3.X edition as well. I've never given PCs negative hit points, either. IMC, basically, 0 hp = dead. Regards, Darrell

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

That's kind of what I was trying to say, too, 'wulf. I'm just not as articulate. :D At the request of several of my players, I've been giving thoughts toward re-tooling magic; and have come up with a few differences for our games. Basically, there are three different kinds of magic...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

D&D is 'rules-heavy' because the role-playing aspect of WotC is driven by hardcover book sales (softcover supplements apparently didn't sell as well) and miniatures. Releases of hardcover books are driven by new rules and rule implementations (often called "crunch"); and miniatures-heavy games...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

The primary 'house rule' for m20 is simple common sense. As far as an armor check penalty, I'd say that whenever a rogue decides to try wearing 'unsuitable' armor, any time he attempts any action that would be affected, regardless of the type of check called for, he would suffer a penalty...

    D&D 4E Dungeons of Dread Preview 1 - 4e stuff!

Let me preface this by saying that I'm one of the 'I'm probably not gonna go 4e' crowd. I am, however still gonna be buyin' D&D Minis, 'cuz I like 'em. :) That having been said, here is my take: Ascendant Hellsword... ...eh. I don't use cambions in my campaigns, so it does nothing for...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

It's been mine for a while now. :) Welcome t' the club. :D My experience, as well. We find m20's speed and free-form style suit us much better than rules-heavy games. [SNIP] I can see that. I rather like it. :) [SNIP] I can see this to an extent, but I can also see a use for...

    De-magicking D&D Adventures

No concrete examples here, because I tend to make my own adventures, rather than using published material 'from the book,' but I've generally found it quite easy to 'switch out' one enemy for a less-magical type of enemy (though I agree with ironregime about limiting magic items if using...

    Iron Defender

That, or the description of the Iron Defender becomes a lot more like that of the Steel Predator as of 4e.

Characters coming and going (your opinion)

Maybe because the BBEG didn't build the dungeon; he's just the one who's living there now. The mirror might be in a secret room he's never found. (As a side note: I lived in an apartment for three years in my college days, and found out about a veritable 'secret compartment' previous tenants...

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: WotC Settings (Realms, Ebberon...) (Winners Anc.)

See, I'm pretty much the opposite. I detested Eberron from the word 'go,' and thought mixing the 'pulp'-ish flavor with fantasy was the worst idea since (not wantin' to get all 'Simpsons Comic-Shop-Guy' on ya, but...) Greedo shooting first. In fact, I checked 'did not like' on many of the...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

I've been trying to get onto the microlite20 wiki to have another look at jcmadden's recent stuff, but keep getting a 'can't find the website' error message. Is the site down at the moment, or is my computer just messing with me (again)? Regards, Darrell

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

:D :D :D :D :D On the whole, though, I really think m20 has gone past the whole 3e/4e 'edition war' thing. It's changed enough from core 3e that it's virtually a new game in itself, while keeping the good stuff from 3e/d20. For what it's worth, since I've pretty much decided not to...

    D&D 4E Not going to 4e

Linguistic Nitpick: You don't "grow" the fanbase (you also don't "grow" a business), you build it. That, I believe, is where WotC is losing its path. Building means starting from a foundation and building upon it. The process of alienating a fair portion of the existing player base, while...

What we're all waiting for...full frontal nudity!!

Heh. :) IMC, elves tend not to wear clothing in any case. They live outdoors, and I give 'em a certain degree of protection from heat/cold instead of that (IMO) silly 'notice secret doors'-type ability (low-light vision is enough of an 'enhanced senses' ability, as far as I'm concerned)...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

That's one of the reasons I started using the variant from Complete Divine. It affects every undead creature within 30 feet, which should be fairly easy for the DM to adjudicate by looking at the map of the encounter area. If it a 30x30 foot room, all of 'em have to make a Knowledge + MIND...

"4th Edition will assume roughly 10 encounters per level"

"Ten encounters per level." Heh. :] Not in my games. Ten gaming sessions per level maybe. I ran a game for two years during college, playing pretty much every other night, and when we finally wrapped it up, the PCs were somewhere around levels 10-12.

    D&D 4E 4E Devils vs. Demons article

Ditto here. "Devil" and "demon" are just words describing the same kind of critter in my campaign. And as far as the poster earlier who said they never met a gamer outside of these forums who had a problem with the "Great Wheel," well, I both hated and replaced the 'not-so-great wheel' years...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Better late than never! :D Welcome aboard! I haven't posted to the thread in a while myself, but was fairly active early on. Yes, the development of m20 has been incredible. Well, I can't speak for the other folk, but in my case, I put together what I consider to be 'perfect'...
