Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

So far only saves are 12/18 by default but a lot of us playtesters used 12/18 for just about every non-combat roll we have and it worked out fine. For more specific guidelines; well, we'll all have to wait I guess. ;) And no one is going to be able to give a release or shipping date for...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

Some people feel that it will complicate things and others think it only makes sense. I'm on the fence myself...but the nice thing is that you can easily do it either way. Or a hybrid of the two, without causing any problems. :) And as far as I know the only roll that defaults to the 12/18...

C&C kind of goes its own way regarding round time. It's more like 2e in that the time isn't actually fixed (in 2e the one minute round wasn't really fixed, it was just an average to give the DM an idea of time) but it does give you an idea of what an "average" round time is. And, more like 3e...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

There is no minimum attribute needed to cast spells. You gain a limited number of bonus spells for having a higher attribute in your spellcasting stat. And by default the attribute modifier is not added to the target number for a saving throw but it easily could be if your CK so desired. ;) C&C...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

Actually saving against a spell is based on the level of the spellcaster, not the level of the spell cast. So the target number in your example would be 21, not 17 and that's just about on target as far as I've seen. Most checks like saves and disable traps, etc use the base 12/18 plus a level...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

Multiclassing and dual classing restrictions were almost non-existant in the last playtest version so we're not quite sure what (if any) changes will be made as of yet. And we may not be until, like everyone else, we read it while buying the book. ;) For my part, I have no real problem with the...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

I don't know, in my life experience I've noted natural talent to be far more valuable than learned skill. Those who learn skills to augment their natural talents are the ones who do best in life. But, anyway, that's getting WAY off gaming in general and C&C specifically...just my thoughts on the...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

Well, that's the beauty of C&C for me...different ways to do and see everything...and all of them work! :) And my druid's not doing too bad chasing off bandits now is he? ;)

You'll find that most often players will make their highest stats prime anyway. And they will amost never make their lowest stats prime. So it's not very difficult to come up with a background for those attributes and the primes. A prime is generally thought of as your level of natural talent...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

You're forgetting the CK's modifiers. If there is some reason the rogue should have a hard time climbing that wall then you can make it rough on him. But, yes, a 12th level rogue is going to be able to climb a normal wall pretty much all the time where as a 1st level rogue might had to try a...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

The 12/18 mechanic is used for saves and most any other action besides combat. It gives you a base target number depending on whether the attribute in question is prime or not (12 for prime and 18 for not). At this point attribute checks just require a 1d20 roll + character level + attribute...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

That's not quite what I meant about remembering player and monster actions. In d20 you still have players shouting out that they want to do this or that and you still have to remember what you want each monster to do (in short, that comment was supposed to be a joke). I wasn't talking about...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

Ok, it's morning again and back to the questions! ;) I'm sorry I'm not quoting everyone when answering questions but I can't stand doing that...I'm a gamer not a computer wiz. So, anyway, we're really not sure how much of the game is going to be OGL. Only the Trolls know that...

That's how 2e worked, yes. You could use those magic abilities but you got no xp for the encounter and only half for the entire session. C&C doesn't have any such restriction. As I said above it's just a basic multi and dual class system that allows you to do what you want with it. If your CK...

Glad to be of service as well. :) And converting C&C to 3e would be pretty easy in fact as you'd be adding things more than anything else. But adventures will be pretty easy to play with any D&D edition you want. :)

The idea behind C&C initative is that it doesn't really use any modifiers (no dexterity, no weapon speed, no casting time, etc) so you can do it either way. The default is written that you declare your action and then go with it. But there isn't anything keeping you from doing it the other way...

Castles and Crusades (NDA is lifted - ask questions, get answers)

I haven't seen anything like "3e sucks" here either and I certainly have no intention of downing anyone's favorite game. I'm just here to answer questions. I do personally like C&C better than 3e (or 2e or 1e for that matter) so if a bit of my own feelings creep in you'll have to forgive me. But...

Monsters will not have full stats (no attributes listed) but we're still a bit in the dark on what the full stat block will look like. As to when the game will be released we have no hard and fast word on that either. It should be "soon" but how soon that is we don't yet know I'm sorry to say. :\
