Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

Polar Ray is not a bad 8th level spell, it is quite adequate. It's not GREAT, but as has been stated, high damage cap and no save make it useful. Or rather, it should be useful. The reason it isn't is power creep -the Orb spells (And certainly Deadfall) are simply too good. For people who use...

    Spellcraft DC 419, wtf?

This level of shameless abuse would, however, be curtailed in any actual game (as opposed to theoretical discussion) of D&D by the simple fact that Solars (and to a lesser degree, Couatls) exist in finite numbers with positions and duties in celestial hierarchies. Under no circumstances would...

    Spellcraft DC 419, wtf?

Well, Vengeful Gaze of God was really only included as an example (and a rather crappy one, I might add) of how Epic levels are completely uncapped and you can go as high as you wish. As for most epic spells, it's not really all that hard to make your Spellcraft roll skyrocket. Consider a 30th...

    Batman as a D&D character

Some of you people can't be serious. A portrayal of batman, *the* Batman, of CR/Level less than 15 is simply absurd, considering what he's done. Among other things it's established, in series such as "Hush" and "The Dark Knight Returns", that he can defeat Superman. Even though this requires...

Thrown Weapons... what can make them viable?

Honestly, I've always seen thrown weapons as a back-up for melee focused characters. You know, orcs with Javelins, the rogue with his daggers, poisoned to taste, Dwarven fighters with their obligatory thrown hammers and axes. Something for them to do while they close in, or when fighting...

Anyone got a spare Major Artifact

I like those stats, but I think that if you can use the calling function of Gate, and especially if it doesn't cost XP (and SLAs don't) then Cha mod/day is far too much. 1/day should be enough. Gate is almost as powerful and versatile itself as Wish.

A Variant Rule For Metamagic and Base Attack

Eminently sensible. I might steal some or all of this system. It also seems to help fighters by reassigning to them the abillity to use multiple attacks effectively, as was the case in 2e.

What happen if a fire elemental fails to make the jump over a body of water?

My gut reaction was also "lava rules", but then, you hit a problem. Suddenly, Create Water is like Harm for fire elementals, and although that makes sense, it's horribly unstylish and makes them far easier to defeat for a prepared or lucky foe. Occationally MacGuyvering a fire elemental to death...

Spirit Binders (Tome of Magic variants) - updated TWICE 12/25

It seems downright rude of me to ask for more, after you have provided all this wonderful material, but do you have any thoughts about mechanics for Outsider spirits as well? What would be the benefits of binding an Avoral, a Blue Slaad, a Mezzoloth or even a Klurichir? Edit: Or, in a fashion...
