Faerie Fire & Hide in Plain Site

It's a tough call. Faerie fire does negate concealment caused by darkness, so you can't "hide in shadows" with it up. For Hide in plain sight you don't need concealment, so I'd say you are fine. DM could rule that Hide in plain sight is "a similar effect" to invisibility though, which is...

    Setting up the pet

I was building a disarm and fetch team once. PC was a ranger archer with disarming Shot. Companion was a wolf trained to fetch. My plan was to use the Wild Cohort feat to get a Druid like companion, and exchange the ranger companion for an alternate class feature (Distracting Shot - PHB 2...

Can you trick someone into Voluntarily Giving up a Saving Throw?

Anyone considered adding in the False Thuergy trick from complete Scoundrel. It makes one spell appear as another for the purpose of counterspells and spellcraft checks. Now if only my wizard didn't have a 6 CHA I could totally bluff people into accepting my spells.

    Shadow Magic as spells

My read was that most Mysteries are higher powered than the arcane equivalant. As examples, the Mage Armor like mystery gives +6 to AC, the Mage Hand like mystery works on magic items, and the light like mystery combines light and darkness into 1. I would probably consider a mystery +1 lvl...

    Illusionary Cone of Cold

It would be funnier if the rogue was a changeling disguised as a fighter.

[PHB2] Immediate Magic (Abrupt Jaunt) Spell-like or Extrodinary?

Hello here. I just found this thread (I'm the bugbear/Conjuror in Erwyn's game). Some noted above the only restriction was line of sight? Isn't it a teleport ability? I don't recall seeing that limitation on teleport. My two most common uses of this ability are to negate attacks (by...

    Making Player Rolls

Here's a thought. Get the players to roll. But never respond with "You see nothing". Every time you call for a Spot/Listen/Search, give them a description of what they do notice. As an Example: DM: Make a spot check Fighter: I got a 10 DM: [Knowing DC was 15 to see the Giant Spider] You...

    Knowledge, knowledge and more knowledge!

Knowledge Devotion in Complete Champion is +1 to all knowledge checks, IIR

    Dodge and Mobility alternatives

I know of none for mobility but I think I heard of a few for Dodge. Most are class features IIRC. Blarg posted about Midnight dodge (a feat) in another thread, it's only slightly better then dodge, and only if you have incarnum. The only one I can think that comes to mind is the Knights...

    Low level Crusader Feat selection

I am playing a knight/hexblade right now with a similar concept. One of the big problems I had especially for the first few levels was Armor check penalty. At -8 to climb I had to roll high just to get up the stairs. Sure you can de-equip your shield, but a level 1 character can't afford...

    Batman as a D&D character

I'm all for Monk/Urban Ranger/Artificer with one additional tidbit: The Dark Template. Hide in plain sight, Darkvision, and wicked bonuses to stealth are so Batman. I like the idea of some Bounty hunter PrC, but I haven't seen one that would fit.

    Fighter Alternatives

There is another list of alternate class features in Complete Champion. I didn't specifically look at the fighters though.

    Silent Image of Obscuring Mist

I believe your party members would get +4 on there save to disbelieve. Maybe more if it's a common tactic. In the case of a fog cloud I would rule that the save happens as soon as you look at it. I can't see any other time it would happen. It's a super cheap way to get the party a decent...

    bad dice rolls

I would overcome the Curse of the Dice with a Wizard type. - Maximize Spell - Spells where you roll nothing. - Take feats to take 10 on Concentration and Cast level checks

    Halfling Rapper 25 Cent

Ok. So the only I hate about this concept is that some else came up with it first. Here's what I'd add: - Look at the Savage Bard Varriant in UA. - Get a body guard cohort with Goad to keep punks off you. - I think there is a Shield Other spell which would allow...

    Best 5th Lvl Divination Spell

Even with the XP cost to cast? It's cool I agree but it's something you'd only want to cast 1/adventure

    Best 5th Lvl Divination Spell

I'm playing a character who's just taking his second level in Unseen Seer. As such, I get a free bonus divination spell from ANY spell list. DM has limited us to SRD spells only. So what is a good option for a 5th lvl (or lower) SRD divination Spell? Currently I am thinking about True...

Rogues vs undead, elementals, golems, etc.

I agree it's a little cheesy to add equipment that lets the rogue sneak attack everything. It's not the intention of the ability. That being said, it's a major class feature and a real downer when you can't use it. If the rogue is determined to be in melee and wants to consistently deal...

    Ideas for a thief/swashbuckler.

I would think you are looking at a high Dex/ high Cha build? Look at the following feats: Combat Panache (PHB2) - Some fun Cha based combat moves, and Play Dead Telling Blow (?) - Add multiply sneak attack damage on crits (w/ keen rapier this is a sure way to massive damage...

    Combat Sleight of Hand

I looked over some of Disarm and grapple rules. It looks like there are 3 ways to get an item off someone. 1) "Lifting" it via a slieght of hand check. This seems to be more for steeling non-equiped items, like purses and potions, but no rules seem to state that. 2) "Disarming" it via a...
