Has anyone played D&D with another RPG?

IMO, based on my experience, Hero System out D&D's D&D any day of the week. Assuming you're equating D&D with munchkin-ism, dungeon diving, just hacking crap to bits, and thinking, "It doesn't have to make sense, it's fantasy mfr!!" - as that's what D&D fantasy means to me anyway.

Starting with Legends of Anglerre (FATE)

Having never played FATE or LoA, I can't really help you directly, but I can advise you to visit rpg.net's forums as both of those are very popular there and you will almost certainly be sure to find better help there than here with your needs, IMHO.

    Systemless Sourcebooks: What's Good?

Harn setting for sure... For GURPS and HERO System, I'd really only consider the 'genre' books systemless, most of the setting books, and maybe a few key others. I mean, sure the "GURPS Low-Tech' book, for example, will give you lots of equipment and prices, but it's really only useful if...

    Looking for an investigative/horror system

Not a system suggestion, but just a general suggestion for anyone doing "Investigative" adventures - pick up a copy of GURPS Mysteries. It should be a great sourcebook for you regardless of what system you use.

Gliese 581g - A Tidally Locked DnD World

Someone already mentioned that the winds would be constant in the twilight zone, however, I didn't see mentioned that the effect of that constant convection current in the twilight zone would be to turn it into a Sahara-like gigantic desert. This is the effect that occurs over Africa that...

Settings and stories the rules can't handle (or don't handle well)

I only read the OP and the last few posts here... To the OP, yeah, that's difficult for D&D to handle, unless you rip out the magic system and replace it with your own - which is a crapload of work to do and not really worth it IMHO. To the above quote I have to say it's close, but 100% of me...

I'm looking for a game that has these things. . .

This is absolutely true, I thought I'd made that clear on my first post's first sentence, "To play GURPS as a fantasy system (which is the only way I've ever used it) you need the two core books only." I just realized with this quote above that it's been dismissed though... GURPS really does...

    New system, Battlejack, development updates.

Hmmm... I guess it's been too long since I looked at their submissions page, but last time I did they were willing to accept anything so long as you followed protocol. I just checked up on it though and you do appear correct. Sorry, don't know when that policy changed.

I'm looking for a game that has these things. . .

No problem. I always try to give a reason why, when I can.

    New system, Battlejack, development updates.

try SJGames? As I understand it, they are always willing to look at submissions, though you have to follow their process to the letter if you expect to be taken seriously. I don't know how other publishers work with regards to new games.

I'm looking for a game that has these things. . .

To play GURPS as a fantasy system (which is the only way I've ever used it) you need the two core books only. It's nice to have GURPS Magic (many more spells, critical if you're going High Fantasy) and GURPS Thaumatology (if you don't like the standard magic rules or just want a different...

    Do Your Tastes Change?

I have to agree with that, I'd think everyone's tastes would change, even if only a little bit over time. Me personally, I've always leaned towards the more gritty, dark and realistic fantasy - not that I don't play other varieties of fantasy, I just play that variety most often. I guess...

    Why D&D is the devil...

If that weren't true, this would be funny to me, but because we live in the real world, it's just sad.

Please help me find a new gaming system!

You are correct Banestorm=Fantasy 3E. Personally though, I love the concept of the banestorm and the concept of the world it would create, I didn't like the actual execution of it though. I think I'd have gone for more of a "New World" outcome where there were elves (or something) on the...

Please help me find a new gaming system!

If by "typical fantasy setting" you meant "typical D&D setting" then no, ignore the posts suggesting GURPS and Dragon Warriors, those games aren't for you. If however you want a good game and can drop your #4, then yes, by all means check out those systems. Dragon Warriors is the more...

    Fantasy Roleplaying... Choke Band Video...

I had to share this with everybody, because it's just funny to us fantasy RPG fans... Choke is a band I used to watch here in Louisiana when I was a teenager... They are apparently still together and still making music. Back in these days (mid-90's) the only thing better than Choke for metal...

Players: it's your responsibility to carry a story.

Um, really. You've been GMing since you were thirteen and you just figure this out now? How old are you? I started GMing at 13 and figured this out when I was 13+1/2. It does feel good to shout it from the rooftops every now and then, but I mean, c'mon, that's the art of GM-ing, my friend...

    An interesting Dilemma

My suggestion would be to convert the feel and general story of WotBS, not the entire thing encounter for encounter if combat times are an issue, as the whole campaign, like everything D&D, has lots of combat in it. Or if you are going to convert E-for-E, use a system that is quick in combat...

    WotBS WotBS Soundtrack

I would think that playing something along the lines of the Lord of the Rings soundtracks and/or Braveheart soundtracks - plus hundreds of other such soundtracks would get greater effect than metal music. Of course, you'd want to try and time the pieces... that can be achieved by looping one...

    Looking for a Campaign World

I second using Dragon Warrior's Legend as a campaign world. It's a really good, really medieval world, unlike Harn. I bought Harn just recently after years of reading good stuff about it and quite frankly I was extremely under-impressed with what I actually got. For such a 'supposedly'...
