Why we need Warlords in D&DN

None of that has to be magical. They all sound to me like perfect things for a battlefield commander to be able to do - get his troops in good position to attack, give advice for new tactics, inspire them to find hidden reserves to keep fighting, etc. The only way that it could feel "magical"...

    Class Balance - why?

But isn't it a problem if a DM has to DESIGN AROUND a particular character to keep them from shining too much or another character to keep them from shining too little? Shouldn't each class have the capability to shine ON THEIR OWN without being coddled by the DM? That's the heart of the...

    Class Balance - why?

[/LIST] But the thing is, what you're describing is 4e and balanced classes, not earlier editions. In earlier editions (particularly 3.x as the problems with balance in 1e/2e only really crop up at highest levels, it's: Let the Wizard cast Tenser's Transformation, Enlarge, Stoneskin and/or...

    What Has To Be Save-Or-Die?

I HATE save-or-dies. I don't understand why a game with a perfectly workable (if admittedly arbitrary) mechanic that determines whether I live or die - i.e., hit points - has ways to completely short circuit that mechanic based on a single die roll. Not only is it not fun for a single die roll...

"'Kill it before it grows'...he said 'Kill it before it grows'..."

I never personally said any of those things being options were dealbreakers for me, I just stated which I thought were likely to be options and then gave my personal opinions on each. No, I don't care if you can roll so long as I can still point buy. The only way those things would be...

"'Kill it before it grows'...he said 'Kill it before it grows'..."

I think that #1 being implemented as one of many options is pretty much guaranteed, #3 has a decent chance of being an one of the options and #2 likely won't be implemented because it will fill a lot of book space for little benefit other than to please the most old school of grognards. As to...

Pathfinder 1E Interview with PATHFINDER lead designer Jason Bulmahn

Well, it's a very eye-catching and silly-sounding comment. It might be reasonable if it really is advice for setting up maps, but if it really is how to handle a set of stairs in-game, it's unnecessary and likely to be ignored by most players. It's also a silly thing to mention when you're...

Pathfinder 1E Interview with PATHFINDER lead designer Jason Bulmahn

The fact that anyone, much less a professional game designer, would think rules for stairs was a good idea, makes my head hurt. How does anyone seriously need themselves finding the need for rules for stairs? Gah.

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

I currently DM for a group that can have as many as 9 people playing at at time, but can often get down to as few as 4 or 5 as the evening wears on. The thing I've mostly found is that the fewer players, that means the fewer monsters, and thus faster combat. 4e suffers severely from encounter...

Tell me about your D&D group

-How long has your group been playing together? About eight years, with most of the group. Three of us have been playing together for 18 years. -What are the ages, genders, and professions of the people in your group? I'm gonna try to do this from memory, so some of the ages and exact...

New D&D Facebook Game Live Today!

Hmm... When I finally got back in after that maxed connections thing, my adventure log stated my character got wounded and retreated, in spite of the fact he had 11 HP left, and I found a ton of magic items in my inventory that the adventure shows no record of me getting - a dragondaunt shield...

New D&D Facebook Game Live Today!

The game does unfortunately seem heavily biased towards subpar roll results - after the first roll was a 19, my remaining rolls were 5, 3, 16, 3, 3, 2 and 11... It should be "Tiny MIS-adventures," because my poor Dragonborn Fighter did sure as heck end up looking pretty incompetent.
