    The Lethality of 4E

I thought this was interesting. In 3.x in our group, challenging our players seemed tough because of the varying character building prowess and abilities. As DM, to effectively challenge the 2 powergamers in the group, it seemed like the fights had a significant chance of killing others. I...

    The Lethality of 4E

Seems very true. My player that had his character engulfed by the gelatinous cube took that acid 10 every round and never came close to getting himself out. Took the rest of the party finally beating it down to free him, but he definitely had that helpless round by round feeling...........

    The Lethality of 4E

Some of it may be attributed to the way I've run Shadowfell. It's basically been designated as a "warm up/let's learn 4E" before we start a game with characters you care about. I've encouraged tweaking between games and freely changing character types between sessions. I really want them to test...

    The Lethality of 4E

Long time lurker de-lurking for a question. I've seen a lot of speculation/theories that 4E constitutes a more lethal rules enviornment for characters than previous D&D rules. I ran a few 4E preview games and have run four sessions of Keep on the Shadowfell and am starting to wonder if I'm...

    D&D 4E Basic 4E Rules Question......Set Me Straight

I took a crack at building a few characters yesterday and today........I seem to learn rules better that way. A number of calculations feature the 1/2 of level as a modifier. Given the basic rule that you always round down, I figured that the modifier should be zero for a first level character...

Skill challenges in Keep on the Shadowfell

I actually thought the suggested skill challenge for the final room is very good.............I know they were tight for space but prbably should have left it in. It seems like a much better example of what they're trying to do than the Sir Keegan challenge.

Keep on the Shadowfell and Rituals

I was fortunate to be loaned a copy from my FLGS!! On a second readthrough, I found no more detail about the listed rituals. I am looking forward to teeing this up for my players. Some fun rooms and encounters!!

Keep on the Shadowfell and Rituals

************Minor Spoilers************* I received a copy of Keep on the Shadowfell this weekend and had a chance to read through it. One thing I found that I thought was interesting was the section on the town priest. It reads: "Although Linora is not a cleric, she is a non-heroic priest...

    Gencon website - Horrible!

I spent about 3 hours trying to register for True Dungeon and got nothing. My frustration level is high, esp since this seems to be a recurring theme.

Yep.......I'm definitley thinking about trying this the week after release.

    D&D 4E 4E: Testing the Sweet Spot

One of the designer's stated goals of 4E was to broaden the "sweet spot", so the game would be as fun at higher levels as it is at the lower ones. One of my players and I have talked about statting up a party at different level intervals and having a appropriate level challenge from the...

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

I'm curious to see how the monsters will work in combat as far as posing a threat. It seems at a glance that their damage dealing capability is lower based on their levels compared to 3.5.

The Rouse Picture: Other 4E Clues?

I was amazed by Kwalish Kid's careful analysis of the recent USA Today article and picture found here........http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2008-04-01-300991490_x.htm# His extrapolation of the Dragonborn rules off the screen was greatness. It also got me wondering......are there any...
