What can Google Trends tell us about D&D?

seen it. I'm figuring the results have a lot more to do with the pop of the city being 180,000 or so and as such 10 searches there holds more weight then 100 would in NYC.

What can Google Trends tell us about D&D?

So google trends is a "mostly for fun" analysis. It's a portion of searches and it calculates a relative volume based on some sort of location based sampling. I'd say it "very selective" in what portions it uses for producing calculations, on "roleplaying" a big item was "guild wars" in 2005...

How to Play D&D With Your Buddies from Highschool

Graduated over 20 years ago andfI play regularly with 3 guys i knew in highschool: two guys kicked off the football team for being too violent and my dad. One of my best friends from school lives the next town over and our kids play rpgs together and we do when our schedules allow. Keep talking...

    Book Prices...

A gaming book would provide a lot of bang for the buck in the field of entertainment. A lot healthier and longer lasting then a carton or two of smokes and some beer.

When was YOUR Golden Age of Gaming?

I'd consider NOW to be very much a golden age. Changes in the industry, fandom and technology in general have brought on a whole new generation of thought and gaming that just wasn't really there 10 years ago. I can read the thoughts of hundreds upon hundreds of other enthusiastic and talented...

Do you not play WOW? Forked Thread: Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

I don't play WoW. I don't let my son play WoW. We play enough computer/console games as it is, there are plenty of other things to do for fun...like play real RPGs.

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

Spells and magic items have always been trumps if you want to get picky about it. "Oh no, someone has cast hold portal on yonder door" -> knock. oh look an evil Mu, silence him ! -> silence spell. evil MU- Crud i'm silenced, I guess i'll have to use one of my 8 spells with no verbal component.

1E DMG vs. 3E DMG vs. 4E DMG

Comparing the DMGs between editions reveals a great many differences between editions. 1st ed was the very first DMG and it still covers everything that defines what AD&D was and explains the role of the DM. The dungeon gets a lot of treatment in the host of random tables to cover just what...

    Videogame Influences!

Of the people I game with about 1/2 have played MUDs/MUSHs and MOOs and we range in age from 11 to 59. I was playing a game of Chess in a weakly LoTR themed MUSH when the gentleman in Sweden I was playing chess with informed me the first gulf war had started. My wife was a Mod for a DUNE mush...

    Rough numeric comparison 1e-4e

Secondary skills are a weak optional rule that appears in the DMG. So they are included but were ignored and unused by most folks.

    What's wrong with high-level/epic play?

If the whole party is standing in a 10' or 20' cube waiting to be victims of the spell. A lot of the "trump cards" are overblown by many folks. The evil wizard has to have the ruby dust material component, initiative and get within 60 feet or so of the party (they can be further later on)...

    Combat is different

That's like saying every combat is resolved by the last to hit roll. If one wanted to resolve the jump scenario with dice all the points I raised (and more) could easily involve a half dozen plus dice rolling opportunities. why not tie off a rope? <- use a roll if DM and players are maniacs...

    Combat is different

The player and the DM are shorting themselves in both examples. Yeah combat has systems and subsystems that add a lot of detail to resolution but other situations can have a lot going on in them too and player and DM are both cheating themselves out of a fuller experience if they resolve them...

    Holmes Edition - Weapons Question

There are three ways to handle the weapons #of attack rules in holmes. 1. keep them as is and just dont' worry. 2. ignore them. weapons just do 1d6 damage. 3. house rules- come up with some rules to tweak combat to your tastes. The holmes combat rules are so simple you have room to tweak...

How Many Have Looked At/Played Mutant Future

Seen it, played it, like it. I think it's pretty darned good. Certainly similar to GW 1st edition but a bit different. For players of early GW versions I say "GET MUTANT FUTURE" it's worth it for the mutant critters alone; Spider-goats can only enrich a postapocalyptic setting. My son is...

    Gaming and Your Significant Other

My sig-o and I game together. Technically we play D&D, WoD, Earthdawn and CoC (D&D a-like weekly, others about one a month each). I have no issues at all gaming with a sig-o, If I didn't like her and she was a jerk to my friends and acquaintances why would I want her to be my sig-o? I also...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

BFRPG- is dressed up like basic/expert D&D but curiously enough plays more like original D&D in action. Races and classes. AC starts at 11 and goes up. No alignments. No cleric spells at level 1. Not all races can be all classes, there are no level limits. Optional rules provide a level scaled...
