I don't think gamers are any more or less intelligent than any other cross-section of people. It is just something we like to think about ourselves.

I think I agree with this, but I'm not sure.

There is generally quite a bit of reading involved. Anyone who's been through the 1E rulebooks and absorbed over 50% of what's written certainly needs some degree of intelligence.

No, they don't have to, but many do. Some gamers I know get away without reading any of the rulebooks, relying on what others explain to them. Others enjoy reading the books just to read them, like me. On average, I'm not sure.

I doubt there will ever, or could ever, be an RPG product published that will have 85% of the ENWorld members say "Holy Crap!!! That's one of the coolest things EVER!"

You're hedging your bet by placing the percentage that high. I'm guessing that you could have come in under 50% somewhere.
