GSL & SRD -- Comments, Questions, and Hopes

Honestly, there really aren't that many "stats" in City State or the Wilderlands products. Stats for City State NPCs were as abbreviated as I could get away with. The sewers beneath the city do have stat blocks for the monsters you can run into down there but with 4e it is pretty easy to...

    4e D&D GSL Live

In some states "non-compete" clauses are difficult to enforce unless an employee is hired directly by a major competitor. Now, it might still require a lawyer and some litigation, but, I know one particular individual that had a non-compete clause tossed (here in Texas) by the judge before...

Character Creation Software - Straight Answer Please

Well, I would guess you can't do this under the GSL, if you are going to use the license. Going ahead without the license is possible ... The problem is, do you have the time and money to have a good IP lawyer review your software/web-based product in order to make sure you are clearly in "fair...

GSL & SRD -- Comments, Questions, and Hopes

Actually, it presumes that there will, eventually, be changes in staff at WotC. Past history indicates that such changes can significantly change the outlook on licensing/open gaming and that a license could be be withdrawn. Frankly, if not for Scott Rouse and Linae Foster, I don't think there...

Seeking True20 publisher - Established world, art already done

I would suggest you look up the True20 publishers that are out there and propose this to them directly. It sounds like you want to go to print and that this would have to be a hardcover book. 100-200 "sure sales" isn't really enough to cover what you still need from the publisher (in terms of...

    New 4e Publishers?

Wait and see Several publishers have already announced their plans and/or are working on things now. I believe that some of them have the GSL already, but I don't really know. The GSL is available to the rest of us tomorrow (Friday), or, at least, has been promised to be available. I will wait...

    4ed torrents -How'd it happen?

I am pretty sure they could track it, the question is, where/when did the copies get stolen? Sure, it could have been a disgruntled employee at the printers, or maybe someone got hacked, or maybe someone walked away from their computer for a while and someone came by ... etc. Just knowing where...

Boy, Does It Ever Suck Not Getting Paid!

Ouch John, I hate to say it, but I am owed a total of thousands of dollars from a variety of projects over the past 8+ years. Like you, I never publicly "outed" the companies in question. I do admit to private discussions with some other freelancers though. In some cases you can consult a...

    Dragonlance Lost Chronicles Canceled ?!?!

Well ... Okay, if you have ever been involved with freelance writing for, well, just about anything, you know that being on-time is crucial. Publishers are on a schedule too, and the writing is only one part of putting out a book. The rumor I heard, and it is ONLY a rumor, is that Hickman and...

    D&D 4E Video Review of the 4E D&D Website

Strangely, I have complained about the WotC website design on several message boards over the past few years, including this one. I generally got flamed to hell if anyone commented at all. The website is a KEY piece of marketing for their new online initiative as well as for the new edition...

    Thanks Jason!

Folks, I just wanted to post my thanks and appreciation for the work Jason Ludwig has done for me. Not only has he come through with some amazing artwork, but he has also done some wonderful writing for me. It is always difficult for a new publisher to find good, hardworking writers and artists...

    D&D 4E 4e Competition/Alternatives?

You have some suggestions for games above and some of those are pretty good. It pretty much depends on what you are looking for. As for "competing" with 4e, let's face facts, DnD is the juggernaut of RPGs, nobody can really compete with it. The fact is, most of the people that buy or play other...

    Sticking w/ 3.5: Any Publishers?

As someone posted already, I believe Paizo's next Pathfinder series is going to be 3.5, but they'll probably switch after that. I would guess that some .pdf publishers might still put out some 3.5 material for some time if it remains profitable. I know a few are going to keep on through this...

    GenCon files Chapter 11

Well, certainly enough doom going around. GenCon is very profitable, this is why they decided to expand further into the convention business. The convention business is NOT an easy road. Someone last fall told me that GenCon makes $, two of the other conventions they run "almost" break even...

D&D 4E Just realized no these for 4e!

Naw, artificers will still make wands, but now they'll be called "boom sticks." -I know, sorry, it just had to be said.

    Wilderlands - box set and/or player's guide?

JG Wilderlands The Wilderlands Boxed Set is not really tied to 3.5 DnD, sure there are some stats in there but frankly, we kept those as minimal as possible because the thing was so bloody big. As with the original, you can easily convert this material to any Fantasy Role Playing Game system...

D&D 4E Green ronin going to do 4e products?

To the best of my knowledge no publisher has paid yet, nor been asked to pay yet. Of course that could be wrong. Nobody has seen the license yet and you can't pay for a license without the license being ready to be, well, bought. Several publishers are planning to jump on board no matter what...

    Dungeon and dragon WOTC forums

If you take over a magazine that is HEAVILY used to promote your upcoming, new, game system you'd better dedicate people to doing nothing but that magazine. Producing a magazine, whether online or print, is a huge manpower-intensive undertaking. WotC deserves NO forgiveness or leeway because...

    How do you pronounce "Erinyes"

Hmmm Okay, this poll made me laugh my head off. No, the poll isn't that funny, but a LONG time ago during a game the DM had serious problems figuring out how he wanted to pronounce it. It went something like this (sorry Grandma, and mods, I am guessing the filter will bleep most of it). DM...

Why are most dungeon entrances on the south?

Hmmm Dungeon Feng Shui? Really, I would guess it is just the way the maps are drawn. I know that I confused a cartographer once by having the outdoor map showing a mansion at an angle and then the mansion map the front door was at the bottom (south) of the page.
