    Firefly class ship on BSG

Iku Rex, the Gateworld Forum has shut down guest browsing due to sudden high bandwidth traffic in the past 48 hours. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you? ;) And wasn't the Valley Forge from Silent Running used as the agroship in the original series?

    This scares me...

A few years ago my company had an offering for the employees to sign up for AD&D insurance. When I read through the paperwork I saw that it stands for "Accidental Death & Dismemberment". I said "man I could have used this when I ran through the Tomb of Horrors, I died five times". My HR manager...

    The glory of OD&D

A few months ago I snagged a copy of the white box OD&D in a bookstore. Besides the three booklets it also had the Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldrich Wizardry and Gods Demigods & Heroes supplements as well as the Swords & Spells and Chainmail booklets. Each one is from it's last printing but the...

Frequency of poison-use in a medieval fantasy world

Eh. All you have to do is use Iocane Powder. It is odorless, tasteless, dissolves instantly in liquids, and is among the more deadly poisons known to man. You just have to spend a few years developing an immunity to Iocane Powder and you golden. Of course, since it originate in Australia, until...

What did real medieval mines look like?

Unless your campaign is specifically set in a sparcly populated feudal era, why limit yourself to Medieval mines? Do a Google search on 'Roman mines' and 'Roman mining'; specifically look at the images section. There are some good sites with photos of surviving Roman mines that look a lot like...

    D&D Technology

Actually, both Roman mosaics from 300 AD and Minoan wall paintings from 1600 BC depict women wearing what are obviously bikinis. Of course the chainmail bikini is another matter.

    Modern Miniatures

Look at model railroad figures for pedestrians, regular police officers, construction workers, etc. The O scale figures might be a bit small for use with 28mm minis, but you can justify the size difference by the fact that the PC's minis should look larger and more 'heroic'. Or you can use HO...

    Electrum Pieces!!!

Electrum is a naturally occuring amalgamation of gold and silver. It was used as coins by the early Greeks because they did not have the technology to seperate the silver from the gold. As later people learned how to properly do this, electrum fell out of favor as a form of coinage. Personally...
