Unearthed Arcana: Strange Gods (Dragon #398)

Looks like they got Divine Identification fixed, although apparently the prior text actually had nothing to do with the actual power... The Apendix N article is up at Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Appendix N). The link listed in the article is now correct...

Unearthed Arcana: Strange Gods (Dragon #398)

Kiss the tentacle, indeed! =] I'm digging the options to ditch healing (ugh), now they just have to come out with them for non-divine leaders. Unfortunately the "Apendix N" link does not seem to be working... =[ It's also a Chanel Divinity power but lacks the standard CD "Special" line - I...

Why CompoundWord Monsters Don't Bother Me

Yeah, but "feygrove" and "feymire" just sound cooler and more evocative. I hear "fey crocodile" and I think little, adorable things with butterfly wings and a literally wicked grin. Feymire indicates that they live in the mires of the fey. Also: Owlbears. OWLBEARS...

    Rule of Three - 04/18/11

Well, I think WotC is going to have to find something else to produce "too many" / "too much" of then, because the current churn isn't really working anymore.

Diseases - where can I find them?

Most school children are full of them.

    D&D 4E What I want from 4E DnD in 3 simple steps.

The issue is that not all of the ways that you can spend your limited resources are equal. I'm not saying what's optimal and what's not because ideally a player is going to optimize for the highest value of "I have the things I want on my character sheet", and not any numerical value or...

Feat Taxes, or, It's That Time of the Week Again

One of the things I was most liking about the 4e design ideas I was seeing before launch was the removal of item bonuses as a central part of "the math". It seemed to me at the time that they got added back in, possibly at the last moment, when things weren't adding up otherwise. But I think...

What would be an appropriate level for this power?

I don't think it's completely unbelievable. Epic destinies and paragon paths (and themes and racial powers, etc.) don't actually play by the same rules as class powers. You have to look at the whole epic destiny to see if this is really appropriate or not.

Designers looking for mechanics feedback on Optimization Board

Right, but what I'm questioning isn't how WotC is going to approach the issues raised, but what the fan reaction will be. Going out of their way to ask for advice of this sort kind of puts WotC in the hot-seat, and we gamers are an impatient and fidgety lot (IME). Every week that goes by from...

Designers looking for mechanics feedback on Optimization Board

Well, for example: there's a lot of people clamoring for something to be done with the seeker (among other classes), but what if that's not forthcoming? Doe going out of their way to specifically ask for input like this end up leaving WotC in a position where they need to either take action on...

Designers looking for mechanics feedback on Optimization Board

I have the impression, and I absolutely don't spend enough time there or have enough insight into someone just from their forum posts to be in any way sure of this, that at least some CharOp posters have agendas that they are very attached to. I'm not saying that this biases them or anything...

    doesn't anyone play low-tech anymore?

Insofar as you find it easiest, I think you're in the minority. Most comfortable, I'm less sure of. The key factor in the success of the CB has been convenience - which is also why you see so much complaint about the online version vs. the offline. A lot of that convenience evaporated for a...

Switching from bow to swords - how does it work?

You don't need quickdraw to effectively use your powers, just enough ammunition.

    Hammer Hunter

Good thought! I'm also thinking of a feat to generate CA (hidden sniper, distant advantage, does cunning stalker work at range?), but I think I'm running out of feat slots, lol... I'm going to be slowing / immobilizing off of both clever shot & disruptive shot, but I think (aside from an AP) it...

    D&D 4E What I want from 4E DnD in 3 simple steps.

But that isn't always true, or at least the advantages he does have just aren't worth as much. Expertise is an obvious example, but ability scores are also an issue, because of racial boosts. (Actually, maybe that's backwards? I was thinking that going from 16->18 was more valuable than going...

When did WotC D&D "Jump the Shark"?

Yes. I think that's an entirely subjective assertion, and while you're certainly entitled to feel that way, I would deny that it is actually true for most people playing D&D right now.

    Second wind a power?

Basically, when the issue of tracking Second Wind comes up (on character sheets / aids in general) it's formatted as if it where a power, because that's how the cards are set up and showing it any other way would be confusing. But in the actual rules text it's just a block of text, even where...

WotC_Trevor is looking for questions for Rule of Three

Are there any game elements that have been specifically abandoned (ie: no further development, no new powers, feats, etc.), and if so which? (I'm assuming none, but I could be wrong and from some comments I've seen I think that it would be useful to clarify the point.)

    Hammer Hunter

So I'm taking a break from DMing while work is being all crazy-like, and I've been fooling around with several possible characters for an interim game one of the others in the group is going to DM. One of the ideas I had was to try a hunter, and I ended up deciding to see what I'd end up with if...

    D&D 4E What I want from 4E DnD in 3 simple steps.

In practice I've found this not to be entirely true - I wish it was and I have argued (and will continue to argue) that the "math fix" was not actually absolutely needed (but the customers that WotC was responding to felt it was, so that's kind of a moot point), that expertise feats etc. did not...
