It sounds like the player almost *wants* his PC to die. He seems to be rejecting common sense solutions to his shortcoming to his own detriment. In light of this fact, I am going to throw my hat in with those that say let the fellow learn the hard way.

I've played the aforementioned Savage Worlds Star Wars conversion and had more fun with that than I've had since I played the original D6 Weg rules back in the day. Its fast and feels like Star Wars should feel, IMO.

It's strictly cosmos in the planar sense. It deals with alternate primes, Elemental Planes, the aethereal plane, celestial planes, nether realms, pocket realms, etc. in a Gygaxian style. It's a fun read, but can get quite convoluted in places. It's also quite detailed.

Yeah ENWORLD has been a great idea generator and inspirational tool for me for a couple of years now. I'm more of a lurker now, but I still come and get ideas from you guys pretty frequently.

These PDFs are indeed high quality products, I have not regretted purchasing them and have found them useful on many occasions.

Aside from the obvious answer, which is to go get the AD&D 1e stuff and play the original game in all its glory, I would go with C&C. It provides much of the feel while giving the game a bit of polish via the D20 core mechanic and the SIEGE engine. As you may know, you can play OAD&D modules...
