    Shadow source confirmed!

I saw the cover stating it was psionic, divine and primal. After the announcement of them putting the kabosh on Ki, I'm guessing those classes got dispersed to the three power sources.

overlap zone and aura damage stack?

Yup, you've got it right. As long as it's from different sources, the damage stacks.

    Shadow source confirmed!

The article also implies that the shadow source will be entirely DDI exclusive. That really makes me wonder what other classes they'll be adding to the mix.

You're a sick, sick man. I love it, but you're sick.

    Broken things errata'ed, July 2009

This is one of the big problems with BRV, even from the start. Not to mention a fighter's reliance on Wisdom. I like the change because it builds BRV fighters as more a "building momentum" class than "I don't get hurt" class.

Forked Thread: what do you do when bloodclaw > artifact (& HR just doesn't cut it)

I looked into this, and I don't think it technically works this way. Bloodclaw requires a free action to use, and only applies to the next attack you make. Storm of blows, and for that matter all other sequential hit powers, counts as multiple attacks. Unless you can break up your standard...

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

I'll actually chime in on this one and state Iron Kingdoms. IK is a wonderful world with an incredible amount of story potential and fun to be had, but it never really fit into d20.

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

Completely unofficially, I've heard a rumor from a rather reliable source that one of the 3e designers had also paired up with a publishing company and was planning on releasing an annotated PhB. All the rules and text with notes from the designer about basic, unwritten assumptions about the...

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

As I said, it wound up being you can only use the d20 logo if you follow the criteria. You can still do whatever the hell you want, and that's how Pathfinder is even being published right now. It just lacks the logo.

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

Whenever I hear someone ranting or arguing about corporate evils, the Billy Joel song "Angry Young Man" starts running through my head. Funny how that happens.

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

About halfway through the production, WotC revised the OGL, stating that in order to have the d20 logo you had to hold the product to certain decency standards. I believe this was in response to Gwendolyn Kestrel's Book of Erotic Fantasy, but I could be mistaken. There was a big debate at the...

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

I think the author assumes the anti-4e demographic is a much larger market share than it actually is. By the sound of the article, WotC has ruined the game, and nearly all the old gamers are rejecting the new edition. It also assumes that WotC demands you play the game in a certain way, and...

    OD&D = social mobility, 4e does not

I don't think it's coherent enough to spark either. OP, what exactly are you trying to get to?

    Suggest an RPG (not D&D)

If you want a fun game with little prep, I've got two words for you my friend. Savage. Worlds. Super fun, generic system with a very pulp feel to it.

Things I had to get through my head

This. Your typical brutal scoundrel rogue, or artful dodger with sly flourish, will be shelling out about 20 damage per attack at level one. This isn't just supported by math either, I've seen about three of that build at that level, and it's very consistently that damage output.

    Aberrations- Help Me Use 'Em

If you can find it, the 3.5 book Lords of Madness really helped flesh out aberrations. I remember reading the mind flayer chapter in-depth, and it really helped me with my illithid encounters. For example: Illithids in and of themselves have a completely alien mindframe. While the basic...

MM2 - what monsters are you excited to try?

Ghost Legionnaires are quite simply one of the coolest ideas for a monster I've seen. Shared HP? Say goodbye to focus fire tactics and a real re-thinking of how to handle a group. Call of History? Such a cool idea for skills in combat.

A big thing I've seen people grapple with is how defenders are about more than defenses.
