    Tigh finally Nukes 3e (review)

I'm really trying to understand exactly what is being said here.

Significance of Rule Changes in Editions

I understand what you mean by the changes from 3.x to 4, but the baseline game stayed the same. Task resolution, initiative tracking, even the action economy was, for all intents and purposes, the same. When 2nd edition changed to third, the baseline fundamentals of the game were altered, and...

    Dwarven Druids and other weirdnesses

I actually had an idea similar to this, except it was a chained primordial that served as a perverted life symbol. In combat, he'd have an absurd regeneration, and cause everything around him to gain stackable temporary hp each round. When your temp hp=your max hp, you go explody. I also like...

Do your PCs use Rituals regularly?

My PC's use them frequently. It's amazing that when you ride your players hard enough, they use every tool at their disposal to get through situations.

    Dwarven Druids and other weirdnesses

As a side note, this makes me wonder if Ur-Priests are going to see a comeback in PHB3.

    Dwarven Druids and other weirdnesses

Imagine this: Halfling Storm Sorcerer. The stats line up perfectly, but just the idea of a little halfling being whipped around by the winds of his own magic makes me chuckle a bit.

    I've DMed 4e and I PREFER DMing: A poll

I'm firmly in the 4th edition DM category. I've run plenty of 3.X, and I've got a lot of love for it, but holy crap did it get overwhelming by the end.

    Dwarven Druids and other weirdnesses

This. Eldritch actually means odd or macabre, not necessarily magic. As a side note, arcane is not a synonym for "magical", but instead closer to "unknowable", "unnecessarily complex" or "esoteric." It has frequently been said that the full rules of baseball are rather arcane.

    Dwarven Druids and other weirdnesses

Here's irony for you: Drow get nothing, stat or feat wise, to support a dual weapon ranger. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

    Expertise justification?

Sorry guys, I have to play devil's advocate. I don't know why I have to, but I have some bizarre compulsion to do so most of the time. Expertise feats are circumstantial. Weapon expertise, for example, only applies to attacks made with that category of weapon. Now, before you go off on how...

    Moving the Story Forward

You can have a castle with hundreds of rooms, but only two or three encounters. Remember the encounter based design. Think of a necromancer's tower. You can have a large, eight story tower with a grand total of three encounters; a skill challenge to get past the haunted grove and into the...

4E, the Grind and Why I Play

This I'll completely agree with you. The food may not be particularly tasty or nutritious, but the mere fact that I can order a hamburger at McDonalds and in 30 seconds, I've got it on my tray indicates a very well-oiled machine behind the counter.

4E, the Grind and Why I Play

I'd say just take a look at the evolution of game design through the years. Take any given game and examine it's first edition. Then look at every edition that comes afterwards. Nearly every time, the rules become more streamlined, simpler, and more elegant. Unnecessary tables and rolls are...

4e Monsters that scare the crap out of characters

This. If you want to see a player nearly wet themselves, get a bunch of skirmishers past a defender and have them flank a ranged striker or controller. Or, find ways to bunch up PC's with push pulls and slides, then start dropping AOEs on them. I've found that nearly any monster set can scare...

4E, the Grind and Why I Play

Honestly, anyone who really thinks that using the same basic mechanics makes two things the same, or even similar, needs to talk to a Warmachine player and claim that Cankerworm is like a Devastator. They're both warjacks, after all, and use the same basic mechanics. Yeah, their numbers are...

    Stalker0's Guide to Anti-Grind

I've also noticed that multiple creatures that cause the weakened condition can drag a fight on a very long time. Wratihs are really bad about this, and I'll never use more than one at a time again.

Forked: GTS - A need for "A robust system that handles things outside of combat"?

The specialization thing is really nothing more than an extension of the basic task resolution, and is as applicable when firing a gun as debating. Check out most of the non-combat abilities WoD characters get. The vast majority of them provide no concrete mechanical or dice related effect...

Forked: GTS - A need for "A robust system that handles things outside of combat"?

I completely agree with you. If you examine how other RPGs handle the out-of-combat mechanics, you see a very good example of how they do it. Short answer is they don't. As White Wolf has advanced World of Darkness, the total number of skills and out of combat mechanics has decreased. The...

Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

Honestly, the comments seem a bit to Chicken Little to me to really be taken seriously. If 4e is selling poorly, it could be that everything is selling poorly right now. That being said, whenever gaming books sell out of multiple print runs and hit bestseller lists, it's generally a good sign...
