I hate death saves. Propose your solution.

Not at all what OP is asking, but I’ve considered permanently filling in a failed death save bubble and calling it a “wound” So players can only drop to 0hp 3 times. Maybe you can heal wounds by resting for a week.

Map of Chult Turned to Stone! *SPOILERS*

Yeah, I might just say “Some of your characters have probably heard of magic that that reverse these sort of effects but it’s especially powerful and rare magic. Maybe someone back in town has a lead on it... the problem is finding your way back without a map” I would turn finding home base...

New Campaign Setting Hint Is Eberron?

I was just thinking that it seems pretty telling that so many people would like to see Greyhawk and don’t expect to get it. Honestly, I could see Greyhawk 5e essentially being “5e with OSR hacks” my my actual prediction is basically a pdf that combines Planescape and Spelljammer elements (2...

Some random house rules for things that bothered me

Honestly, in a world with magic spells and magic weapons I assume that masterwork swords would matter about as much as masterwork swords matter in a world with guns. In my setting, magic weapons are fairly rare. I’ve just taken it as an opportunity to highlight fantastical stuff like Mythril or...

    Fiddling around with Fifth Ed

I feel like people look at the encounter building rules and seemingly endeavor to make boring combats by treating a “medium” combat as a “recommended” combat. I’m assuming it’s the way it’s written or something in the DMG. IMO They work better as a ruler and not a stencil. Just a (maybe kinda...

    Super Simple Armor

I've thought about doing this my entire D&D life but have never had the guts. As a player it always annoys me when I SHOULD take an armor mathematically that doesn't match the aesthetic I am going for haha.

    Planejammer / Spellscape

Cool stuff I can put in my game

    D&D 5E Darksun Version 4.0

I can tell you put a lot of thought into this. Very cool. The only thing that strikes me funny is the sub races thing. Setting the PHB lore aside, most of the subraces in the base book seem like minor variations within a population as far as most PCs are concerned. Tossing them all out for lore...

My Experiment with 5e - No Classes with Cantrips

I've thought about doing this a lot. Or maybe just running a game where you don't start with cantrips or they are included in your "spells known" or whatever depending on the class. Thanks for reporting back.

Why Did "Solo" and "Rogue One" Feel Like RPG Sessions?

I actually thought The Last Jedi felt a lot like a RPG session where everyone is rolling poorly. I don’t mean that as an insult either. Just an interesting structure designed around repeated failures still leading to resolution. There is a lot to learn about GMing from it IMO.

Will you make transsexual Elves canon in your games ?

Works for me. This opens the door for some pretty wild political intrigue.

    Timelines in your Setting

I think that a magical world created by gods could be well into the medieval era in 16100 years yeah. This is assuming the gods created the races and that magic was a powerful tool for thousands of years.

D&D 5E Class-Based Milestone Advancement (or a new look on leveling up with XP)

I don’t hate this as a concept. Obviously it needs work to be fleshed our but the intent is nice. If I were to do this I might make each character a deck of cards with “achievements” on them. Some are harder than others but all of them are broadly worded. Sorta like “Make a better deal” “take a...

D&D 5E What have you found to be the hardest thing for new players to understand about 5e systems?

I think you’ll find that nobody really plays the way you are imagining.

D&D 5E What have you found to be the hardest thing for new players to understand about 5e systems?

It’s easy to ignore cuz it goes by so fast but every player I have ever taught gets confused by the use of “spell level” and how it differs from their level

How do you make a Barbarian interesting? :)

One of my players had a Warforged Barbarian who was essentially The Iron Giant. He wanted his character to feel conflicted about his relationship to violence and this “mode” he went into. So after session zero I added Warforged to our setting, but the idea was that they are only known as...

    Enchanted Trinkets I (5E)

This sounds super handy. I have a ton of enchanted tools and stuff in my campaign. This will add more! Good stuff!

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

That's fine. It's pretty common at Con games and I've never heard of someone invoking it in bad faith. I'm sure it happens, because plenty of people are selfish but for me the potential cost outweighs the overall benefit, YMMV. At the end of the day, nothing in my games is too precious that I'd...

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

I have been using milestones for over a decade but recently came back around to XP. In my newest campaign XP has been a pretty useful carrot and has created interesting decision points. It's pretty specific though. My players are members of a school that awards XP and requires tuition (GP) to...

What are the DM's obligations of disclosure for sensitive game material? What is "sensitive" game material?

Yeah. I think it's entirely valid to be like "Oh I don't worry about that stuff because it's pretty clear that nobody in my group has any issues" or "Yeah, I don't really bother with disclaimers, but my games don't feature anything crazy like sexual assaul. They are in line with basic...
