    Mastering Iron Heroes? Worth it?

    I dont see it myself. Most gamers get into our hobby because they want to use their imagination. They've seen cool films or read great books and want to participate in such coolness themselves. So, its fairly easy figure out that if a sword fight is cool, its even cooler if held on a rickety...

    D&D mega-campaign with all the options turned on?

    Thank you for the advice, but out of curiosity, what is so awful about the Rogue/Psion/soulknife mix? (i cant remember 3.0 Psionics so well as I hated it and never used it). I remember soulknife was a PrC back then and you got lots of damage bonuses, which I'm sure combine with sneak attack for...

    D&D mega-campaign with all the options turned on?

    Any difficulties with this option? Anything you'd wished you'd known about before allowing into the game? Thank you, Steve

    D&D mega-campaign with all the options turned on?

    At the moment I'm running a weekly Exalted game (session 35 now) filled with action, adventure, intrigue and Terry Pratchett jokes. And I've kinda used everything for that line (8 thick hardbacks, 40 odd softbacks) in the sense that if its published, I'm happy to use it or for PC's to use it...

    Mastering Iron Heroes? Worth it?

    The print version is a thin softback of about 96 odd pages (guessing there) for about £12 in the UK. So not particularly cheap, or overpriced. Heft is quite light, which is why I paused from buying it- didnt feel like I was getting my moneys worth. See zones dont seem particularly innovative to...

    Mastering Iron Heroes? Worth it?

    What are zones? And the Villain classes- is it the usual Dark Lord Sauron/Jabba style crimelord/Black Knight type of thing? Thx. Steve

    Mastering Iron Heroes? Worth it?

    How useful is Mastering Iron Heroes for a veteran GM? I ask, because I flicked through it today in Forbidden Planet and saw that it was mostly general GMing advice, some magical item properties lifted from the DMG and some poison or deisease damage thing. So- any important stuff I missed on...

    Drenai -> d20/OGL starting point?

    Regarding systems that might do a Gemmell-verse game well. (at least for my non-d20 interests of personality mechanics, family connections, king vs. faith, guilt & redemption) then one game might do very well. Its an old game, but one that has just been re-released and seeing it in the shops...

    Drenai -> d20/OGL starting point?

    My view is that intentionally removing the Christian themes from a Gemmell based game would weaken the feel of it. It'd just be another standard fantasy world and Druss would just be a Conan clone. And if Waylander were a PC, he wouldnt be redeemed by Dardalions faith, and his giving up murder...

    Drenai -> d20/OGL starting point?

    Christian theology is a massive part of the Drenai setting (though given another name) and Gemmells beliefs are ubiquitous throughout all his books. Most of his books also have a distinctive dualist Christian cosmology behind them. http://members.tripod.com/~Derae/questions.html See question 9...

    Drenai -> d20/OGL starting point?

    Essentially Gemmell doesnt go overboard with monster variety in his books. Most opponents are other men. Perhaps evil or wicked men, but still men nonetheless. Bandits, barbarians, tribal swordsmen (like the Sathuli) or deserting soldiers are the basic staple of his initial encounters. These...

    What have you done with Starship Troopers RPG?

    So, I've volunteered to run a 3week game of SST at my local club in February and was hoping for some inspiration. What have you done with the game, and how have you had fun within the confines of the default Mobile Infantry style campaign? Coolest moments especially appreciated. Many thanks, Steve

    Drenai -> d20/OGL starting point?

    I've thought about a Gemmell style RPG, but keep hitting some roadblocks. A lot of Gemmell Characters are 'Best Noun in World' types, where that noun can be "Swordsman", 'Gladiator', 'General', 'Wizard' or 'Killer'. Yet while they can beat almost everyone in their chosen field, they still...

    What system is Ptolus?

    I'm not sure its worth the cost for me to essentially duplicate the WotC books. Has there been word if these books of his are used (classes NPC's possess fer example) in Ptolus? Thx. Steve

    What system is Ptolus?

    Well the WW ordering website says its fully compatible with 3.5, so I guess its basic d20 3.5 SRD. The D&D logo might be nice for allowing him to use some of the popular D&D options books (Complete Whatevers etc.) Steve

    What system is Ptolus?

    I've looked up and down on the description of Ptolus on Monte Cooks website. But nowhere can I see a definitive mention of which system it will use -http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?mpress_Ptolus Now I'm certain its some variety of d20 (given the mention of going from 1st to 20th...

    Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

    I dont buy it because Dragon has marginalised itself into a D&D only house organ. Now I used to have a regular subscription for it with my newsagent back in 1990-96. I also sought out a great many issues from the late 80's. The reason was that Dragon covered the whole gaming spectrum. Sure there...

    Pathfinder 1E [Paizo] Health of Dragon & Dungeon?

    Hi, I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me. Basically, I'm wondering how Dragon & Dungeon magazine have done over the last few years in terms of issues sold. I remember that due to advertising rates, circulation figures had to be publically announced (and way back, you used to...

    Scene setting music?

    In my old Midnight game, I had some rules for scene-setting music.... Travelling- music- Lord of the Rings, Fellowship. The Shire music for safe places.... Climactic battles, apocalyptic explosions and meeting a recurring demon- Carmina Burana. Combat- Gladiator, and War movie soundtracks...
