What is the right price for D&D books?

Not too much for me. I can afford the ones I want. I feel bad for the kids who can't afford them, but I can't speak directly for them. I like big books. I like small books too. I was a big fan of Sword and Fist and that whole series. I think I would like it if WotC had options. Some big...

    Talent Trees - Your Thoughts?

Here's why I don't like talent trees: Talent tree designers quickly run out of interesting things to do. One or two power trees might be logical for certain character concepts. But then the designers go on to push other things into talent trees, trying to shoe-horn concepts where they don't...

    Question regarding "Worked stone"

I'd agree it's a DM's call, but "worked" to me implies anything that a human (or intelligent creature) had a hand in creating. So those spells don't function on walls created by wall of stone, nor rocks stacked up in a wall-like shape by primitive humanoids, and not even inuksuk.

D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Homebrew: Trying to validate a naga race

Hmm, well Yahweh cursed the Serpent and caused him to have to crawl on his belly. That might not be enough of a punishment, but if we take the theme a step further... maybe they are required to bury themselves in the earth to sleep every night.

4 Hours w/ RSD - Escapist Bonus Column

I'm not sure if this type of gamer is really that new. I think it has always been the case that the game has been picked up and enjoyed by people who did not understand the rules. You do hear from the rules-knowers over the decades, because they're the ones who write letters and post on forums...

    Role Playing

I don't actually have any solutions for you, except to say: one of the reasons why "Evil" is discouraged as an alignment is that PCs are people who do things. PCs have motivations. PCs have goals. PCs are proactive. To borrow a term from grade 9 English, PCs are the protagonists. All of this is...

What should I write for my Campaign Setting?

Definitely tell them if you intend to change any rules, ban any classes or races, ban feats or combinations. Players need to know if magic works, and whether it works the same way as in the books. If you intend to nerf anything, try to let them know as soon as possible. An outright ban is often...

Races in a new Campaign Setting

What I do is I take a bunch of Player's Handbook races, though not necessarily all of them, and add in one or two bonus races. To some extent, the D&D races work on archetype. If you create a new fantasy race that lives in the forest, uses longbows, and has an affinity for magic, well then...

D&D 3E/3.5 Some 3.5->4e Races (Dromites, Necropolitans, Raptorans)

This thread came up via a Google search for "4e dromite" and I liked what was done here, but I felt like making a slight change to your version of a 4e dromite. This is all good: This is what I changed/added: Chitinous Skin: You can use chitinous skin as an encounter power. Energy Ray...

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

It is my understanding that the Player's Handbook races gain special powers and abilities as they increase in level. The main method for doing this is via specially alloted "racial feats" and every race in the PH has a few to choose from. The gnome, being a monster, has no such racial...

    D&D 4E No evil gods in 4e?

If the new alignment system is what I'm guessing it is, then I'm pretty sure I like it. Here's my take on it, and I'm probably going to stick to my take whether it turns out to be right or wrong. Lawful Good: Lawful Good combines the 3E alignments of Lawful Neutral and Lawful Good. Any...

What Angers Me Most About 4th Edition

I'm not in on it! Seriously, these guys are telling us all about the fun they're having with the new rules, and I have to sit here and play with v.3.5 mechanics. I love v.3.5 mechanics, I wish I could go on using them forever, but it just eats at the back of my brain that most of the...

So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

The compromise that I reached a long time ago was to cap the number of dice rolled at 15. It's fun for me to roll any number of dice, no matter which denomination, but large quantities of dice don't fit well in the hand, and tend to roll off the table. I had a friend do some calculations to...
