I read this in pdf and loved it. It felt like lean 5e. I liked the layered tiering of abilities as you progress thru the level groupings. Like MOB it felt like 5e but 666% better with more than a decapitated body full of Warhammer FRP.. and therefore Moorcock and Lovecraft and all that schtick...
The [5e] Book of Righteous just landed as a physical product with me and it's a lovely piece of publishing.
I have to say I like the idea of the Great Church as a pantheon based meta cult, and the mythology is well crafted to provide enough familiarity to most D&D players shared common core. As...
Ask the older DM for advice if you want, but make your own decision.
Ignore all the rules if needed. One of the advantages of modern class games is that you and the players have your own versions of rules, not always the same.
Let competent players run their own character, just trust them...
It cuts all ways, eh?
I disliked D&D from 1e onwards yet always *wanted* to....
.. and 5e was the edition that won me over..
Enjoy

I'd be quite comfortable using Savage and I am not so sure that a Marches game would have fewer RP opportunities, in fact I can see our groups RP-ING it up.

I tend to use the Unisystem approach which is that attributes/skill pairing is just a guide and can change depending on how you are using the...
Zardnaar. I like your approach. Could you perhaps revise your set of options and rules and post the final version as a new capping post? I've half a mind to follow you in doing this as a one off mini campaign or con game one day and I'll love to steal your hard work, respect.. Tom
I think this is a very valid proposition, it's not just a return to GH at a specific iteration, but also a return to the structure of D&D at that time, short of just running AD&D 1e.
It's therefore a dual homage.

Love it! Brilliant. Easily portable! Zombies and Dinosaurs, Dwarfs in Jungles, liches! Yuan-ti! Just the right gap since the last one. Can't wait

All RPGs are political. We simply pretend they are not most of the time. I would explain but I think it is a banned subject.

I'd actively remove the standard races and replace them with some of the ones here. Including humans..
But I grew up with Tunnels and Trolls *and* RuneQuest...
