    Monster design- Aspect of Auril

If you want to riff on the ice and fire theme, you could have an ice golem that is being constantly melted and refrozen by a magical artifact in it's chest. The artifact acts like a troll regeneration ability, and the fires act as a form of torture. There might be something that the golem (or...

    Illusions, lighting, and reflectance

I feel that a minor illusion wouldn't replicate light effects, and that would be what distinguishes it from a major illusion. If this sort of situation came up in my game, I would read the spell language carefully and adjudicate based on that.

Call of Cthulhu as a Horror Game

I think this gets close to the heart of the matter - there is a difference between horror for the players and horror for the characters. When it happens to the characters, we are playing a role and we can imagine how it would make the character feel, while safely allowing ourselves to...

D&D 5E Miles per day on horseback: how many?

It is a little faster than a realistic pace, but I consider it to be a "heroic" pace when walking. Isrerith's measurements for the hex crawls (36, 30, 24) measures close to how I treat wilderness exploration, usually the characters are mounted. If they want to push on past a fast pace or reduce...

D&D 5E Miles per day on horseback: how many?

In my games, I usually have the party walking at 4 miles an hour. With horses on roads, I double that. Horses travelling through wilderness, then I change it to 6 miles, which lines up well with the 6 mile hex, which you can use for expansive wilderness adventures.

Jasper's Annual. I SPENT HOW MUCH! DUMB JASPER.

I have found Cons to be expensive, but extremely rewarding. I've made some fantastic friends at these, and they are well worth the journey. Long lasting connections are hard to put a price tag on. To echo some of the other comments, if this is disposable income, and you've gotten enjoyment from...

Poll of the Week: What's the best gift for your GM?

I put minis because they are expensive and get used by everyone at the table. A think a bulk pack or something (especially painted!) would be my favourite gift

D&D 5E Is D&D becoming TOO popular (More DMs Needed)?

Thanks Jeux Fictifs, my little program has been pretty successful. Sometimes I find myself as a player in a disjointed and poorly planned game, but even that helps me with my games. It keeps my ideas fresh. And if the new DM decides to stop for whatever reason, I can always step in and bring the...

D&D 5E The Shield Spell and Spell Points

Whenever I have a player that encounters a game breaking bug, the best solution is to focus on scenarios that challenges their automatic response. This will make them grow as they seek to overcome the challenge. Try to build a scenario where using the spell or rule results in negative...

D&D 5E Is D&D becoming TOO popular (More DMs Needed)?

I've moved cities a few times in the past decade, and each time I've had to build a new group from scratch. My strategy has always been online ads and local game shops, and usually I get lots of first time players. I run something short, with a plot horizon of two or three months, playing...
