    Genre Conventions: What is fantasy?

First off--I didn't read the whole thread...sorry. If I am simply reiterating a view already expressed sorry. It was my impression that the two genres were not separated through imagery but by ideology. Phantasy is a setting where it is believed that the past contains more power than the...

Why D&D is slowly cutting its own throat.

A long term product needs to be innovative, consumable or pre-obsolete in order to maintain high-profit--which can fabricate demand. This is the crux of RPGs.

Your Personal 'Eternal Champion' (ie the Trade Mark character)

I don't think I have any 'trademark' character...but I have several favorites. I don't remake characters but I have been known to make cameos and recurring NPCs. Sometimes the recurring NPCs are just for me, meaning the PCs have no idea who the character is and its relevance tome or the...

So you're designing a character just for fun, not to actually play ...

I've been doin' this since I was a wee little gamer. I have boxes filled with slightly played or never played NPC/PCs...as well as over-played. I dunno, I just like character creation. I feel no real constraints...depends on how I feel and what is motivating me at the time.

Homebrew cultures -- what do you want to know?

Technology: Aquaducts, waste desposal, architecture, communication, transportation, ect. Even minor differences can mean a great deal. Also, I have a penchant for creating meals and table customs for interesting interactions with PCs. ART: How could I forget art!? Doh!

I'm a hack (and slash) author.

I think you mean 'conventions' every time you say 'tropes'. Sorry, I guess that's pretty rude. It's just that...I just completed a paper on structuralist rhetoric theory and it bothered me a little. Sorry. Continue.

Highest level reached from level 1?

Actually, I've only been to 9th lvl in 3.0/3.5--that seems odd. Od&d, 1st, 2nd I've soared through the levels...up to 42nd lvl thief, 30/15 priest/runecaster, and an impressive 14th lvl wild mage. But, nothing so impressive in the latest two editions.

    Unexpectedly Useful Items

I had a character demand 65' rope whenever he was shopping. Isn't it amazing how so many pit traps are conveniently deeper than the standard 50' rope?
