How do you folks do it... I mean post so much!

I have recently been hit on the head with a large object and have no idea whether I am really Piratecat or not? How do I go about finding out?

    Discussing problems with D&D/d20 rules...

I think its cool how HARN looks like HARM! I LOVE THAT! Only someone with my perceptive skills would have noticed that.

    4th editon? 4th EDITION?? NO!!!

When I heard 3E was coming out, I wasn't as thrilled as I now realize I should have been. Having only played 2nd Ed. I didn't really see all of its flaws. At any rate, I was in the process of heavily modifying the system anyway, so I decided to call it 4th Edition... so you see, we aren't...

What is the least likely word to come out of an adventurer’s mouth?

There was that Roper encounter in Forge of Fury which was essentially designed to get the party to either run, or bypass it altogether. I think it is an interesting idea to have a few monsters here and there that the party shouldn't fight... it adds some verisimilitude, but one shouldn't over-do...

Where did all the specialty priests go?

One thing I hated in 2nd Edition in books like Faiths and Avatars was the percentage of a church that were Clerics, Specialty Priests, Crusaders, Mystics, or whatever else they came up with by the end of that mess. I never understood why ANYONE would play a Cleric. I also think that we are...

    Do you use hex maps?

I usually just go by the maps in the book if there are any. As for my mat, it uses square spaces, which is easier for me in 3E.

Do you keep things from past campaigns?

I have probably around 20 old character sheets. I like to get them out from time to time and remember the good old days. My favorite activity is trying to guess where the various food stains on each sheet originated. I also enjoy the worn out hole that exists in the hit point section of alot of...

How do you describe D&D/RPGs to the great unwashed?

I usually don't even bother with the roleplaying aspect as it tends to creep people out. I essentially tell them that the game is complicated version of chess or stratego. Of course, this only scrapes the iceberg, but what can you do?

Why don't you buy non-WoTC stuff?

I buy a ton of d20 non WoTC stuff but I will admit to having a definite bias toward companies who employ former WoTC writers such as Green Ronin and Malhavoc. I get a little nervous when I see a bunch of new feats or spells coming out of some company that may have no idea what they are doing...

    Alternatives to Mats?

If you use alot of square rooms I suppose a chess or checkerboard would work in a pinch.

    Did you notice?

This could be so obvious that everyone noticed it but when Frodo and company are hiding under the log from the Ringwraith and all the worms and spiders start coming out of the log, its at the moment when the Wraith touches the log. I think this implies that ANY sort of living creature is...

SKR's problem with certain high level encounters

Save or die situations exist at the lowest levels of play as well as the highest. I am running the Adventure Path series and the party's barbarian has been failing Will saves for spells such as Sleep and Cause Fear since 1st level. These may not kill him, but they certainly take him out of the...

Another fun way to kill time at work...

I gotta say I'm sticking with Progress Quest. Slap Happy is up to 70th level. YAY:D

[OT] Sep. 11th was the day that I...

I was in a classroom teaching 25 ninth graders English. I had been teaching less than a month and suddenly, I found myself trying to explain to kids who probably have never heard of the WTC and couldn't point to NYC on a map why they should care about this at all, and why their lives would never...

    Ideas for Meepo?

Meepo in our campaign is sort of like Southpark's Kenny. The PCs have killed him at least 15 times, but I just keep having him show up, usually in some sort of pathetic disguise.

Searching for a Brutal, and Harsh Setting.

Any setting can be harsh and unforgiving if run properly... that is the way any PC should live in my mind. There are sections on just about any setting that could be run this way. Ravenloft and Scarred Lands are the best in my opinion, depending on whether you want horror or just blood and grit.

now, how do your PCs haul their stuff???

Re: PPP We do even less than that... we don't even talk about it. Pick it up, stick it somewhere, keep playing. We don't get to play often enough to be adding up the weight of a bunch of loot. ;)

How to run a short game? (and game summary)

On the contrary, I think something cliche is a big mistake. Since you aren't going to invest as much time in this, it is less of a risk. Don't do anything overly bizarre, but try something like having every PC belong to a same-class guild and have everyone play a Wizard or Rogue. Take that or...

One Thousand Ways to Freak Out Your Players

    725. Have a black goat walk across the room in which a PC is staying just as they drift off to sleep. Better yet, the goat moves sideways and has yellow, corpse-like eyes. 726. Drool occasionaly as you run the game.
