Where are you buying Mordenkainen's Magnificient Emporium?

It's not on sale at Amazon.ca, so that means I won't be buying it. I'm certainly interested in the product as I own AV1 and AV2 which are both great. My local store that sells D&D products does so at the MSRP and never puts any of the books on sale regardless of edition. It's just to...

One DM, one PC, and four Henchmen

I've run D&D 4E with just 2 characters and the fun factor really did take a hit. This was mainly due to the fact that 4E, really takes advantage of PC's using powers that combine with one another to become a better unit. Playing off your other PC's strengths and filling in for their weaknesses...

D&D 4E Poll for 4e DMs: Alignment System

As a DM, I've always made it clear that alignment doesn't exist my world. Rather, players will be judged entirely by their actions. Actions that are 'good' or 'evil' are really just a matter of perspective. 'lawful' and 'chaotic' can be redefined by any given city within the world you design.

Do you Expect to hit Epic tier?

We play expecting to hit epic. At this stage of the game the mentality becomes that it's okay if the PC's die. Not all games will make it to level 30 and we're fine with that. But we do hope to at least have a taste of what epic play feels like with any given campaign.

    Tips when building Dungeons.

Oddly enough, in my years of D&D, we've build very few dungeons. Mostly because of the time investment required to design something really good. That said, I tend to take ideas from games like Zelda when making a dungeon. Little puzzles that allow the party to progress and that make combat a...

What non-"essential" characters do you play?

My group has run one of each class from the PHB1, 2, and 3 with the exception of Warden (which I'd love to try), Runepriest, Battlemind, and Avenger. We've only ever tried one essentials character in the form of Executioner. We go through so many classes because we get together for about 5...

    it hurts so much.....

Spriggan Powrie all the way....why? They are a small fey humanoid that attacks your hamstring to knock you prone and then use the hilariously named power "Punt the Fallen' to push the prone target 3 squares. In my party we laughed about this so much because of the imagery it conveys. The...

    New Math and Minions

While not terribly related to the OP, my party and rotating DM's have gotten to a point where we heavily modify minions. Most traditional minions will have increased defenses over standard creatures (+2 to all defenses for example) in the hope they may live long enough to accomplish something...

    Success, Failure and the D20

I think a natural 8 is a comfortable zone to hit standard monsters with others ranging from 10 to 12 being the most extreme before bonuses like combat advantage. I feel the math in 4e has major problems and that the Expertise feet are needed. Expertise fixes the math problems a lot for hard to...

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

I'm curious if a system like that would work...Natural Rolls of 7+ are hits. Conditions can be used to change that from 7 to 9+ or 5+ until end of next turn, high damage weapons add 1 to the roll required to hit and so on and so fourth.

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

I couldn't agree with you more. Do this and create a single feat called Expertise: +1/2/3 Feat bonus to all attack rolls regardless of weapon/implement or racial.

    Dear Wizards of the Coast...

Arcane Power 2, Primal Power 2, Divine Power 2 and Psionic Power 2 books to even out support options for those classes. Each book should place even greater focus on Runepriest and Seeker to put them on par with the others. Greater Racial Feat support: As is, there appears to be some 'super...

Bladesinger - Weapon as Implement Confusion

I appreciate the response, very helpful. Looks like I'll have to decide over Versatile Expertise or taking both light blade and wand expertise feats for their added effects.

Bladesinger - Weapon as Implement Confusion

Weapon as Implement appears to be calculating incorrectly in the builder if my understanding of the rules are correct. I'm checking here to see if you guys might be able to clarify some things for me. I'm building a Bladesinger who gains the following Blade Magic Option: Rapier- You gain...

Let that be a lesson to ya'

Why won't anyone develop a Final Fantasy Tactics turn-based strategy RPG game using 4e? The style already uses a grid and you could get the most out of environmental effects and mobile classes. Am I the only one that wants this?

    What if bonuses never stacked?

I wish stacking were simplified though still existed. All items provide item bonuses. All feats provide feat bonuses. All powers provide power bonuses. All races provide racial bonuses. Classes provide class bonuses where applicable on specific builds. By making each area of the game its...

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

My favorite 3.5 experience was with a Pixie Rogue/Swashbuckler. The combo was very much overpowered being able to fly around with perm invis and backstab everything in sight. But I eventually died from a single hit fireball since my hp was far worse than any wizard could have thought possible...

Which Essentials class do you like the most?

None of my players in any of our campaigns have tried an Essentials class yet. In about one month though, I'll be starting a new campaign for the group and we're slated to have an Executioner and a Vampire played within it. While I don't care for the lack of options in an essential's...

    Battlemind, Seeker, and Runepriest

The one Seeker I've seen run is being used in a campaign with a Warlord who grants basic attacks. We are only midway through heroic but the character appears to be on par with other classes. High damage output with d12 die along with meaningful effects and extremely good battle evasion with...

    Skill Challenges that KILL

To be playing a campaign and having been thrown into a skill challenge suddenly after 10 levels where the consequence is death would be terrible design without any lead in. The reason being simply that characters don't focus on skill based powers or feats as a whole. Unless they know going...
