    Great City Campaign Setting...not 4e...sucks

I wouldn't feel too bad for them. I am sure they feel confident enough in their ability to create something new and fresh if something like that happened. And in the meantime they get to feed from the cash cow, which is more likely to help them keep their families feed and doors open. Most of...

    Great City Campaign Setting...not 4e...sucks

I am not aware of any requirement for me to pass in my old 3.5 books before I can buy 4.0 books. I can play one the other or both. Right now I don't have the time to invest in 4.0 but I will soon and I plan on buying it and trying it out. If I like it, I will play it. Its as simple as that...

    Great City Campaign Setting...not 4e...sucks

I would think that the obvious choice would be the one in which you could find a game and is more fun to play. I have been playing 3x since it first came out. It was fun but I am certainly not married to it. If the world moves to 4e then I will move to 4e with it. Once that ends, I will...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

I think there are probably alot more abstractions that that they are already making "excuses" for beyond just rage and the other martial dailies. They already do this to a significant extent so doing it a bit more really isn't all that big of a change. But I do think that you touched on...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

And yet, I don't recall seeing any threads here complaining about the bad abstractions that are HP and AC, although I don't come and view every day so I may have missed them. The point though is that this has always been a game with abstraction, and bad ones at that. HP is a terrible...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

I didn't realize these were shortcomings in 3e. Where there people out there complaining about abstract combat features in 3e like hit points and AC? I don't seem to remember much of it. Or are you specifically refering to the use of daily limitations? Because I don't remember that being a...

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

So we traded a system that gave us an unrealistic result for a system that has an unrealistic mechanic?

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

Again, is it realistic to have continous weapon locks and throws against armored opponents?

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

You brought up the Steven Segal example as why it is reasonable to expect continous trip attempts. Is it realistic to expect continous weapon locks and throws against armored opponents? I don't. Then again, I really don't look to D&D, in any of its editions, for realism.

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

I have been playing since 1980 and my memories match yours. I don't ever remember a goal of realism from D&D nor did we want one. There certainly may have been group that tried to insert more realism based on personal preferance but that certainly didn't seem like an object for the overall...

Once per day non-magical effects destroy suspension of disbelief

So a hit against someone in full plate means that you broke through their armor and caused them damage? And yet their armor still is just as effective as ever?

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

I don't know, using martial arts tacticts to trip a guy in full plate kind of breaks it for me. Then again, I am playing an 8th level Gnome wizard, who is currently about to cast a Black Tentacle spell on a room full of Troglydytes, so I guess my standard for belief must be pretty low. I guess...

    The Early Verdict (kinda long)

Again speaking as someone that only knows 3.x, I fail to see how everything you wrote above isn't applicable to 3.x.

    The Early Verdict (kinda long)

I will preface my comment by saying that I don't have the 4e books yet and haven't read more then a few pages of them. I certainly haven't played under the new ruleset, yet. As such, my comments have nothing to do as a commentary on 4e. That being said, I am quite shocked to have read...

    Goodman Games DCC License?

Isn't there a forum for publishers and publisher related topics? Maybe this is better there. This forum is starting to look like the IP discussion forum for some law school.

How does the GSL affect me?

But that is exactly what you are doing. You are speculating that the GSL will lead 3pp to stay with 3e and therefore be good for you. My only point is that might not exactly be as good as you think it will be. Really nobody knows what the numbers are going to be for those staying with 3e and...

How does the GSL affect me?

Carefull what you wish for. You are assuming that all these 3pp publishers are going to be able to survive when a large portion of their potential clients are moving on without really looking back. I know that when my current campaign ends the I probably won't pick up my 3e ever again. I...

How does the GSL affect me?

Count me as one of those that greeted the news with a "meh". Now my indifference may be a result of ignorance regarding the long term implications, but I really can't get too worked up over it. Strangely enough, I learened more about the OGL over the last couple of days reading these boards...

Heroes Season [Volume] 1(#23)---5/21/07-'How to stop an Exploding Man' Season Ending.

So then you think it was inconsistent for her to even hit Sylar with the meter in the first place? I mean, if her husband is her only thought and Syler is no big deal then why even bother attacking him the first time.

Heroes Season [Volume] 1(#23)---5/21/07-'How to stop an Exploding Man' Season Ending.

So then I assume that you thought that Nicki acted out of character since she actually acted "smartly" and attacked Sylar like a "combat character" would? Can't have it both ways. And Parkman still has training. He has fired his weapon on several occassions and has been in combat...
